Ok, I know that XD9 mags work in an XD40... do the XD40 mags work fine in an XD9? I'm thinking of getting an XD9 for the cheaper ammo and would like to use my XD40 mags in it so that I don't have to get a wack of new 9mm mags. There are also other benifits ;)

Depends on gun and mag. Only way to find out is to try it.

My XD40 mags will hold a 9mm with about 0.015 to spare.. I wouldn't expect the lips on the mag to last to long (they would start to spread) and you would get jams fairly often..

Also.. if you can fit 11 rounds of 9mm in a 40 mag.. what do you think the cops would say?? is it worth the risk of losing your guns, or at least a very costly legal bill to prove you are right?

It is not recommended, for reliability reasons, you will eventually have feeding issues with you .40 mags. Like already mentioned, check out XDtalk, there is quite a few responses to this very question.

A good friend of mine bought an XD-9
and it was shipped with XD-40 mags.
The rounds fed ok until the last two.
He just crimped the mag lips over/tighter a wee bit
and I haven't heard him complain since.

...WW

Yeh, my xd40 came with some 9mm mags originaly and they worked fine in it. I have eight XD40 mags and don't want to sell them all to buy 9mm mags if I get the XD9. Had a read on XDTALK and it looks like they work ok with a slight tweek of the lips. I guess I'll try it if I get the XD9 and if it doesn't work I'll sell them.
