Well,I'm torn between what to buy myself-I looked at the new savage bolt action Mach2,but the guys at the gun store figure that the Mach 2 will be phased out in a few years due to lack of interest-any truth to that or should I take the plunge and go Mach 2??:)

Yeah, but ammo gets pricy when you go after 150+ a day !!!!!!!!!!

I usualy shoot about 200 rnds when I am out.Takes me all day and I have alot of fun and sometimes I get some exersise in to boot.So for about 30 bucks its well worth it.Theres not much you can do all day for 30 bucks anymore.:)
Go with the 17hmr.You wont be disapointed:cool:

i had to make a similar choice and got the synthetic stainless 10/22. got a vq target hammer and sear and haven't looked back yet. real cheap to shoot and with the bc 25 round clips life is sweet.

Sako quad would make you happy.

That sako quad would definately make me happy,if I could afford it !!!!!!
I'm thinking of just getting the cheap .17 mach 2 just for something different+to try it,what the heck

well, spring is coming and I'm still pondering what to buy, I love my ruger 10/22 but I also want to try something different,I'm presently down to either the new savage .17 m2 or the marlin......anyone have opinions on which is better?

I've read in some US gun magazines that the 17M2 is actually doing really well down south...but is there any truth to this? Many of the 'facts' in these mags are basically just print advertising for US gun companies.

South of the border it does seem to be doing well, not the splash that the HMR made just a slow steady increase. Some of the folks on RFC are reporting that M2 is showing up at wally world and if that is not main stream than nothing is.

If I read correctly you have already got a 10/22 so a 17 is in order. Which one depends on context. If it is small edible stuff then the M2 because it is less destructive if it is just vermin than go HMR more range and more destructive.

I am still on the fence about the m2 for me when I go for gophers I usually hauling a 22 the hmr and a 204. Last year all I had was a bolt 22 and it pretty much stayed in the truck untill the hmr ammo had run out. This year I will be adding a 10/22t (which is comming home this week) just because it is just too expensive to feed the HMR and the bolt 22 looses out the the HMr or a semi 22 in the fun factor, that and 200 rounds is a slow day, good ones are 500 - 1000 ( our record is 4000+ between 2 singles 1 bolt repeater and a semi). Had Russells had the marlin 17m2 semi I would have been very tempted, a little cheaper to handel high volume days, the semi fun factor, good accuracy, but not leaving too much of a gap before it is fun with the centerfire.

Go for the M-2, regardless of what the naysayers have to say  (Usually opinions formed on hearsay)
The M-2 will shoot right with the HMR up to 100 yds & at 2/3's price!:p
The M-2 is a Ammo makers caliber & CCI will be making Stinger cases for a LOOONNNG time & Hornady isn't going to stop making th 17 cal bullets, if it does I wonder what the future of the HMR would be:cool: ?

well, after much deliberation and procrastination I finally broke down and bought a savage mark II .17 M2 with a bushnell 3X9 scope mounted....

after a weekend at the farm,I can say that I have pretty much ruled out the ol' 22 has my standard gopher gun-the M2 is freaking unbelievable. I was getting distance shots with it that would involve some serious hail marys with the .22, time and time again with no problem, easily over 100m-( i paced it out). It also knocked them down stone cold dead-no thrashing about or running down the hole, just dropped them cold. Luckily I bought a bunch of ammo at 10% off so I can shoot more, and more, and more...
Anyways,I highly recommend anyone thinking about it to try this round-you'll become a believer !!
