Seems the XMetal Target 'coated' bullets are getting reasonably good reviews, and Alexandre Berdat is doing well using them...however before I buy a few hundred of the 124's, anyone have an opinion of the possible downside of using them for 9mm Major in a STI DVC open gun? Wouldn't want to melt the base off or have it come apart in the compensator!

Anyone tried them or have thoughts on using them in a compensated gun at 170+ power factor? They are quite a bit less expensive than the 125 Zero JHP's I'm using now...

Not about performance, but I don't like smell of they coating, especially in indoor range.

I was going to write the exact same thing. 90% of my shooting for pistol is indoors now, and they do stink.
I do like the velocity bump and how clean the barrel is after shooting 500+

I doubt it...

The plated bullet guys make their plating extra thick to manage the almost 1400 fps that you're looking at for a 170pf.
I just can't imagine a coated bullet performing that well at that high a velocity.

You spent a lot of cash on a really high quality open gun - I don't think scrimping on bargain basement bullets for it makes a lot of sense.

The coating is going to evaporate when fired so you likely will have a lot of led build up in the comp. Also, I have seen the coating completely coat a C-More in 10 shots.

I would suggest you go with a high quality thick plated bullet like the Campro 121's we sell. We had them designed for open guns to meet the minimum bullet weight for the division. I have driven them to 1500 fps with zero issues and the comp stays nice and clean.

I've never used them but can't see using them when quality plated bullets are available for the same or less cost. The coated bullets should come in between the cost of lead and plated IMO.

I agree with this. I really wanted to fall in love with coated bullets like lots of others have but I tried them (minor pf) and just can't justify paying the same price as plated

I have managed over 1200fps from my 130gr powder coated bullets. Didn't go can higher as was knocking on the max charge for weight of bullet. Recovered some and they are still coated.

They smoke like crazy. I would not use them in an open gun. RO'ing an open shooter indoors using them is bad. Cant breath.

Are you sure it's the bullet's that smoke? I've been shooting them since last year and none of mine smoke. They used to smell, not any more. Either I'm used to it or something in the formula changed.
