Hoping someone has some firsthand experience with these sights. The website is not clear on whether the Sako 85 sight model requires professional installation, or attaches directly to the dovetail with a clamp or screw.

Anyone know for sure?

Cheers.

Duncan can't help you on that awnser, but why don't you by a Sako factory peep sight, there is one or 2 always listed in the EE here, I know Win22 has one for sale right now, that will slipp right onto the Sako dovetail base? These were factory on the L series as well as the forester series and other up till the 1980's, cheers Dale Z!

I'd also be interested in XS sights for a couple of my Sakos. I have a couple of the original Sako peeps, and though well made, they are not ideal for hunting, at least for me. I feel a ghost ring is much better for use on moving game or in low light. The Sako sights are very precise and simple, a nice combination!

Many years ago I had a smith drill out the aperture on a Sako detachable peep. I always have it on me when hunting with a Sako, as a back-up in case of scope problems. I forget the diameter that he was able to drill it to...it certainly isn't a true ghost ring, but it is much faster and more hunter-friendly than the original tiny opening.

I doubt that a year goes by that I don't get some smart-assed comment from someone ridiculing my scoped rifle, equipped with a front sight but no rear sight. Pulling the aperture from my pocket shuts some of them up.:)

I've toyed with the idea of creating a cavity under the recoil pad to store the aperture until/if it's needed.

Its too bad that Sako doesn't offer a modern take on there peep sight since it would work on every rifle they ever built other than the original mauser actions they use to use? And it is too bad Sako never made room in the grip cap to place the peep sight? Johnwm has a good suggestion of reaming or drilling out the Sako peep to make a ghost ring type peep! I wounder with so many Sako's in use in Canada, that know one is making a simple peep for sale similiar to a skinner? DZ!

Thanks all. Already in contact with Win22.

I am actually surprised that the peep sight does not come stock with each rifle fitted with irons. I can't speek about the 75s with irons, but the 85 Hunters, Classics, Bavarians, Safaris, and the new Bear-named lines are all quite popular models. The old buckhorns are OK but a peep is a helluva lot nicer.

Cheers.
