Ok well....... I jumped on the marstar deal and just received my norinco cqa. Looks good got it stripped and cleaned and relubricated. Nowwwww mods mods mods. So I want or put a full length hand guard on it. I have been reading the posts on how hard the front sight is to remove. Oh well I'll give it a try. I have a few questions tho. So I buy a rail of my choice. Then what.... Do I need I different gas block? What about gas tube if I was to put a 10.5 inch barrell on as well? If someone could direct me in the right direction that would be great thanks!!!!!!

Congrats! Welcome to the AR family.

If you get a new rail system, you can them with a cutout for the A2 front sight. If you want to get rid of the A2 gas block, it might take some elbow grease or just cut it off with a dremel. Some folks just cut the sight post off and use a rile to round it off and make it fit into a FF rail. If you decide to get a 10.5" barrel, you will need a new low profile gas block and gas tube to match ie pistol length. You'll also need some specialty tools to remove the barrel nut as well as a vise and vise block for the upper.

Why not just build a whole new upper since you're already buying a new barrel, gas block, gas tube and rail. You can probably get a used upper for around $140. or less depending on brand and usage and a cool muzzle break. You can use the existing BCG and charging handle.

Congrats :D.

Nice. I'm in the same boat with a DA556, but about all I want is a scope and a better trigger

Question for some of the other posters about swapping parts or building an upper. Is headspace not something that you need be concerned over? You can just drop in a new BCG or swap a barrel no worries? Always been curious about that one.

should be good as long as parts are in spec.

I just bought my first AR last week as well. I picked up a used Bushmaster with a pile of mods already done, Just picked up a Leupold Mark 4 MRT off the EE on here and got her sighted in today.

Congrats on your first, and I'm sure it will be the first of many. Don't be afraid to wring her out a bit with those lovely iron sights while you decide on what upgrades you want. It should eat anything you feed it and be surprisingly accurate if you shoot it well.
