Hi folks,

Just had to share this with you - I could hardly believe it.

Finished refurbing a No4 recently for a (very patient) fellow who's been waiting all winter for this one. Made three trips to the range over the past few months, the two previous not yielding acceptable results. Rechecking and tweaking bedding, changing a weak firing pin spring etc etc...

Then, this past Sunday, this:

The sighter is on the left; I then aimed a bit to the right, and fired three shots. The group is less than 3/4 of an inch wide.

"Lee Enfield can't shoot the broad side of a barn!"

That would have to be a pretty small barn...

I wanted to test the rifle, not my shooting skills, so I installed an S&K mount on the rifle with a 6x40 scope.

That's probably my best 3-shot group ever with a milsurp.

Cheers!

Lou

I've read many of your posts and followed with great interest your restoration work. You, Sir, do a beautiful job of bringing the old war horses back to their glory. My N0.4 sporter does that with 150 gr. soft points, but at the service shoots I can still consistently print 1" to 1-1/4" 100 yd. groups with my 1950 Long Branch (with the PH5C target sight). Yessir, the Lee Enfield, in knowledgeable hands, CAN shoot.

C'mon Lou.....now you're just bragging!!!! We both know that must've been a "T" rifle for YOU to get a group like that !!!!! HAHAHA.....I'm totally kidding.
Always nice to see your work and even better to see you getting results like this. Outstanding looks and performance. Hats off to you sir!!!

.
I'll bet LOU didn't wear his "Snow White Costume" on THAT range!

A VERY nice restoration, Lou. A properly bedded Lee Enfield will stay in the black of a Service target easily out to 600 yards if the shooter does his stuff. But when people start "sporterizing" them, all bets are off.

Sir Henry Simmerson: Wellesley, ha! Wellesley don't know what makes a good soldier! Not many do. Do you know what makes a good soldier Mister Sharpe?
Sharpe: Yes, Sir.
Sir Henry Simmerson: And what makes a good soldier, Sharpe?
Sharpe: The ability to fire three rounds a minute in any weather, sir.

Good books.

And good work Lou

Awesome Lou !

You did a fantastic job on my No.1 MkIII*, can't wait to get out and use her proper.

Now that you're famous, maybe I need to hit you up for a signature to keep under the butt plate, lol

I've folowed Lou's restos for awhile and I have to say............

...........redressing lost orphans that had their clothes stripped away many moons ago by the indifferent and the uncaring, and putting solid shooters that nicely represent their lineage and into the hands of "a new generation of Milsurp shooters" at a price that won't break the bank,...Lady's and Gentlemen meet LouThePou!

Hi Lou. Very nice work. Truly impressive.

I have a no1 mk3 I want to restore. Where do I get the s&k mounts? Are they superior to the ati model? I understand both don't require drilling and tapping. I found the ati model at my local gunshop but the s&k I can only find on their website. Any recommendations on scopes? I appreciate any tips or advice you are willinggto share.

Cheers,
Millhouse

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

Millhouse2020, for the No1Mk3, only the S&K will really work (in my experience). You will need to remove a wee bit of wood from a hidden section inside the forend though, but this is another topic which requires a bit of explaning...

Lou

there are people that were hitting pie pans at a mile after WW2... I knew two guys that could... still have a pie pan somewhere that has a hole in it.

20 years or so ago, when my eyes were younger, I shot a 3 shot, 1 1/4", 100M group with basic peep iron sights.
1950 Longbranch L-E, 1975 Greek HXP ammo.

Well done Lou ! Nice shooting and the rifle looks great . The mark 3 you did for me is one of my favorite rifles now and I am looking forward to you doing your magic on my No 4 mk 1 .
