I was wondering how well a Rem 700 .308 action would be as a build for the 300 Whisper...

I'd like to use an action for a .223; but I don't know how long the appeal of having a (sort of) unique bullet such as the 300 Whisper will last for me. If I build on a .308 action and I lose interest in the 300 W I can always have the barrel reamed for .308.

Any opinions?

The .300 Whisper is based on the .221 Fireball case(at least mine is), so you must use a bolt/action from the .223 family. The only thing close(that I know of) with the .308 case head size is the .30Br., although it has more powder cap. I don't believe you would tire of the .300 Whisper, I have tried a half dozen dif. cast bullet designs, and about 10 dif. powders/charges and thats just the subsonic tests. Next up will be accuracy testing at high velocities. Some of the current test loads only use 4.5grs of powder and 1050fps. Some groups are under 1/2" at 100yds, and even the largest are around 1". The cartridge is a blast, one of the best for just having fun.
