What type of stock wood is it? Seems very light for a typical No.1 MkIII

It is likely some kind of Indonesian wood. It was likely replaced when the rifle was rebuilt.

You know what? I'm probably the least likely CGN person to own any rifle chambered in .303 British.

Thanks for all the good comments. The old girl still has a magazine cutoff in place. Fits right in with all my other poor quality lampstands....

I had one that was a weird No.4 built one that had a No.5 Jungle carbine action and had a very dark and dense hardwood stock and was 1957 dated and marked the same as yours, Lou owns it now.
