I know that SR-22’s are old news and these threads are done to death, but here’s mine anyways. I wanted to replicate an AR with iron sights as closely as possible. I hated the stock handguard that the rifle comes with (too heavy, too long, too… fugly) so I decided I wanted a carbine length one instead. Because of the way the SR-22 takes down I didn’t want to have to remove the front sight every time so I chose a two-piece free-float. The MI handguard feels much lighter than the stock one, I can’t imagine how heavy the original would feel loaded with a set of Dlask rails. I’m still waiting on a mag release from Questar which is why the magazine doesn’t look seated in the pics.

*Pics have been updated with the front sight on correctly.

Wow looks great. Just wondering how much you've spent on your set-up. You've come as close as you can to an AR like you said! Wondering how much it would be to duplicate your setup. Lol and yes the sights on backwards.

Good job, the only thing missing is the flash hider, the first upgrade I did on my SR22 which came already threaded. I see that's on the "to do" list.

At first glance it makes for a very convincing AR. Isn't the front sight backwards for an AR?

Nice job, how much has it all cost?

I refuse to add it up, I just don't want to know ;)

THIS! you have what it takes to build custom rifles :D nothing else is relevant if you can master ignorance of investment :) It looks surprisingly good too, I'm really happy with my MI T7 FF hg on my NEA-22, nice piece of kit for the price. Good work

You guys make great salesmen. This and the other SR-22 thread made me buy one. Can't wait to dress it up. I like your carry handle iron sights idea.

Love it - now you have me thinking about a new handguard!! Any chance you checked the weight of the stock handguard? Would be interested to see what it is.

Thanks

So is the handgaurd a standard AR handgaurd or is it SR22 specific?

the SR-22, like most AR dress up kits use a standard AR-15 barrel nut thread. He mentioned he used a Brownells barrel nut and the MI handguard clamps on to that. Some HG's come with a proprietary barrel nut that would replace the original when installing on an AR and they make a great choice for .22 kits. The MI T-Series handguards use their own barrel nut that the handguard threads onto. To swap the SR-22 HG to a clamp on style you will need to buy a barrel nut. Some others like Troy come with their own barrel nut. The only problem is the SR-22 Nordic kit mounts the upper rail further above bore centerline than an AR (I have no idea why) so the top rail on the HG will sit lower than the SR-22s rail. Thats why he used a riser on the barrel clamp to get the front sight up on the same plane as the carry handle rear sight. Dlask makes a short quad rail to make it a flat top as well as bolt-on rails for the factory handguard.

IM pissed...lol..not really..this is totally similar to my plan..My SR22 will be in my hands hopefully by Friday and Will look pretty close to this by Saturday :p..Mine will be a bit different though..Ill be sure to post pics asap...Great looking rifle though..WEll DONE

Very close to my build except mine will have a stainless barrel with a black flash hider.
