Anyway, had a bunch of extra AR parts and figured now is as good a time a any to buy another stripped receiver. Picked up one of the NEA/BCL's, I know, I know what was I thinking right? So I was assembling it and low and behold the hole for the buffer/spring retaining pin was WAY to small. I even tried another pin to make sure it was the receiver not the pin. Also, perhaps some NEA/BCL fan boys can help me out with the next part, the retaining pin and spring that hold in the rear takedown pin on the NEA/BCL goes up from the bottom as opposed to from the rear like most other AR15 receivers and there doesn't seem to be enough tension and it doesn't hold the take down pin in place firmly. With an upper mounted if you tip the rifle to the side the takedown pin just slides out? I am using a Magpul moe pistol grip if that matters also. I know it is an NEA and I should have known better, so I guess I am not really upset other than at my own poor judgement. I think instead of accepting any responsibility for my actions I will just blame JT and the Liberals LOL, they are just such good firearms salesmen, oops, salespeople. Lastly this is not the first AR I have assemble, but the first time I have used any NEA/BCL products.

I have an NEA upper/lower that I built a pretty nice AR from (no other NEA parts) but even though I got lucky and got one that's built to proper tolerances I'll never buy anything from BCL/NEA again. There are simply too many reports of problems for me to trust them with my money. This has been happening for years and it surprises me that anyone would buy their stuff anymore.
Almost seems like there's a better chance of getting a bad one than a good one.

I wanted the 102 to be their turnaround point where the new name and new product would finally be when they got their chit together but it seems like they're very traditional and opposed to change.
 
^. I got my 102 back from warranty, no issues as they replaced the lower, but I'm not going the NEA route for a long time.


That being said, I hope my 102 will find a new home and be cared for. I'm very content with my Valmet in .308 as a replacement rifle :)
 
took me 2 seconds to ream it out the hole for the buffer pin. How is this an issue ? building rifles involves fitting. Especially painted receiver sets.

As for the spring position lots of high end manufactures actually do it the same way ;) and Its freaking great. I used a longer ejector spring for the takedown pin setup and its not loose at all. I also drilled a small hole in the bcm grip for indexing.

I hate BCL as much as the next guy but the hole issue on my set was due to paint. and for 79$ I dont see how I can complain.

Thanks for the suggestions DILLIGAF, all sorted out now. However my problem was alot more than just paint, lucky I have a drill press, because like I said in the original post ,the hole was WAY to small. I took my time an took the paint off, but that still wasn't enough. The original hole was under 1/4 inch and now it is at 17/64 and the pin fits like a glove. That being said I now understand the gripes with NEA. I have built up 4 stripped lowers all different brands, and this was the first time I have encountered anything like it. I know it's not that many builds, and for 79 bucks I am not really loosing my mind, but in case anyone is thinking about an NEA, perhaps pay an extra 10 dollars and get an aero lower. Only reason I didn't was, despite all the NEA bashing, I took a "it will never happen to me" attitude, and I wanted something made in Canada, not because I think it's better, just a second kind of cool for me that's all.

Sorry about your luck. NEA/BCL/whatever the next incarnation = junk. I don't care who says otherwise, I was burned twice and there will not be a third time. They have had years to sort their s**t out (QC) and have not, that is an indicator to me. If I'm building an AR with milspec parts, I should not have to modify/drill/file/lay my junk on them to make them work.

Just my two cents...
