Thinking of a lightweight 20 sxs or o/u for grouse and wodcock hunting but don't have alot of money to put into it and I already have a Citori upland special in .12 guage, just want a .20 for early season close shots. This gun would maybe shoot clays 2-3 times a year and be carried mostly while hunting over my young Brittany. Anybody with any legitamite bad experiences with these? The featherweight of these is quite interesting to me. Good -bad let's hear it please.

You just open your choke up and use lighter loads in the 12g.

The Citori should already have invector chokes.....the OP is apparently looking to add a subgauge. :D

OP - ShotgunWorld dot com has a Yildiz lovers forum (scroll down to bottom of page) that has numerous reviews on Yildiz firearms....most are favourable from what I've read. Those shotguns should meet your requirements basis the type of use that you have specified.

Thats what I meant, change to a more open choke. Improper word choice on my part.

Anyways, I suggested it because he said money is an issue. A $20 skeet tube and some target loads is the cheapest alternative for what he is hoping to do.

Makes sense. That 12 should also come with a Skeet tube......well, my 20ga has one. For Grouse, I feel the best combo is IC/Sk with #7.5 or #8 shells.

Besides, during early season, when the foliage is thick, a 12ga could be a better assist in many situations.

Alternately he could switch to 6's and by virtue of pellet and pattern density punch bigger holes in leaves and fewer larger holes in the Grouse.

Are you guys communists or a bunch of wives posting? Yes I know the Citori Upland special can be choked open and loaded with lighter loads but then daddy doesn't get a new gun now does he? You are breaking the unwritten code of honour of "never talking someone out of a new gun". Geesh...

Get a 20 gauge. They carry really nicely, have more than enough pop. Maybe look into used browning/ithaca(SKB)/rugers (I'm looking at buying a 20 O/U for grouse aswell - and as cheap as I am, there is a beretta 686 Silver Pigeon C calling my name)

Heck, there isn't any honour among any of us to begin with due to constantly tempting each other directly/indirectly to buy more and more when merely one or a couple could be sufficient......;)

You may also wish to look at the CZ (Huglu) line of shotguns - particularly the Bobwhite (with double triggers) in 20 or 28ga .....

See now you're talking sense..LoL. I was actually toying with the .28 idea as I do have a very light and sweet to carry 12 in my citori upland special. I just figured the .20 might be a little more versatile. CZ is also on the "must have a look" list.

BE FOR WARNED!!! IF you try a Bobwhite mini in 28 you may forever leave allyour other guns at home!!
The CZ is a GREAT little gun in 28, and has many features like black chroming of the metal, colour case hardening, screw in chokes, chrome lined bores, the list goes on, and for the price they simply cannot be beat!
I know, I owned one for quite some time and loved it!:)

Just out of curiosity why did you part with the CZ?

The Yildiz 20 is a great light carrying gun with very nicely regulated barrels-- with great parts support in country. A couple of years back, I was distributing and sold a pile of them over 4 years. I can count on one hand the warranty calls on them. When there was a problem, Wide North -- the importer gave excellent and fast service. I am given to understand, that the CZ distributor stocks little or no parts. That being said, CZ are good shotguns for the $. Do a search on Hulgu for issues. The best thing to do is shoulder a bunch of guns in your price range abdbuy the one that fits best -- thats the one you'll shoot best.
Cheers/Luck

Because i ws working deals for other guns, and the fella wanted a 28 - that was the FIRST time!
The gun came back in another deal, and I sold it as well s my Fausti DEA because I have several other guns, that's the only reason!
I have doubled on buffleheads with it, shot pheasants that were missed by 12's, taken chukars at insane distances, and shot geese and ducks with it.
never once did it give a lick of trouble.
What's not to like?:D
