Looking to get a new yote decoy and already have a rabbit imitation. Anyone have any recommendations for coyote imitations? Looked at the 2D and 3D offerings at basspro but couldnt decide between the two. The 2D is very light and doesnt take much room to carry (believe it was the kojo coyote decoy), but is maybe not as realistic as the 3D (I forget the brand of the 3D). If anyone has had any experience with these your input would be much appreciated. Thanks for the help, Cheers fellas.

I have the kojo from montana decoy and love how easy it is to pack that sucker in, especially when you've already got calls or an e caller and a gun among other things. Folds into a 10" disc and barely weighs anything.

Yeah I also liked how light and compact it was because I already carry my fox pro in my bag. Have you had good results with the decoy performance wise?

I just got my kojo about a month ago and hunted only a couple stands with it. Had yotes come in on both, challenging both times, was able to get a shot on the second stand and dumped a male trying to posture up and mark his territory. It definitely gives them something to look at, I'd like to believe it helped, but who am I to say really. When I went to pick up the coyote after the shot and glanced back at the decoy, it looked like the real deal to me. Even my dogs at home flipped out when i set it up the living room lol. As for performance goes, I can't ask for more. It comes with steel stakes, and the fabric is pretty dang tough if you ask me, shouldn't rip unless its really abused.

I've used coyote decoys a bit with mixed results. Some coyotes come in mad and some are scared ####less of it. Same with deer. If your intention is to get an extreme reaction you probably will, but it might not be the one you're looking for. I find that it scares more than it draws in. That may not matter if you are after a particular dominate male or a breeding pair instead of numbers, but those are the easy ones to get anyway.

Meet Gus, the Wonder Yote.

I have similar results to Dogleg.

Most coyotes are afraid of a coyote decoy. They will stand back about 400-500 yards and watch. The only time I have had good results was the first and second time I used it. First time was with my cousin and it was his idea. We had 4 coyotes come ripping in and he shot one and we missed the rest.

The next time I shot a big male that came running towards the decoy when me and a buddy were howling back and forth. I had the decoy about 40 yards from me and shot the coyote at about 10 yards. He was coming in for a fight.

Every other time since, I have had coyotes hang up at 500 yards and just watch it until they loose interest. Or they see it and turn tail and run for the bush.

This is the "yotey the coyote" decoy i bought at TSC for around $50. I even added a real coyote tail to it. It blows around in the breeze to give some movement, But if I could find one on a track system that would walk about 5 feet at a time I would bet it would work almost everytime. I guess a real decoy dog would be the best tool IMO.

Personally I carry enough crap with me I'd be looking at getting the smallest lightest one to try. When is it going to become fashionable to have porters and gun bearers for coyote hunting?
