Looking for feedback on Jimmy Sterwart FM-4 versus a Foxpro FX 3 or similar.

Is the Foxpro that much better?? A couple hundred dollars more.

Thoughts/opinions??

the PM-4 is supposed to be a good unit. its the same as the wired version regarding sounds and volume so it should work great.

the fox pros are more expensive, but worth it if you dont want to worry about losing sound cards like with the preymasters. they also have internal batteries and come with a charger.

if you are the type who likes to have the best, buy a foxpro 5 thats $600 or buy the $180 pm-4 if you dont need something as fancy. both will work.

Callers

I have the FX-3,it's a first class unit, easy to use, easy to download new sounds from Foxpro. You store used sounds on your harddrive and switch them in and out as you need them. The charger is also very handy, and you can get a car charger if you are putting in long days in really cold temps. Mur

FX3 is a good unit. I have one but I havn't got the 200 yard range from the remote. About 80 is all, but that's enough in reality. Tons of sounds online and good battery life, resists weather well, works awesome in -30C. I guess it depends on how seious you are. Before I bought the foxpro I had a cheap J. Stewart and it was O.K. as well. The foxpro is just that much more for the money. Look at Minaska too, they are highly praised.

well, the phantom pro sounds like crap so im guessing the smaller and cheaper version would as well ;)

theres a couple fox pro 3's over on predatormasters for $300...

Thanks we have been using an old Stewart casette player about 20 years old has been good but it is starting to eat tapes, they just dont make stuff like they used to.LOL

Have you tried getting the unit a couple feet up off the ground. Extended the remote range greatly for my buddy with his unit.

I have a FoxPro FX-3 and I have also purchased the Bob Aronsohn Crow Calls sounds from FoxPro. The crow sounds work great, I have not had the same success while coyote hunting with the unit. I think it has more to do with my rookie mistakes than the caller. I will keep trying this winter and one of these days hope to call one in.

Regards,

Chizzy

I have an FX3 and its worth the money. Ya the farther range I can get out of mine is about 150 yards. The caller has to be on a fence post to get that far though. About 80 yards is typical, If I'm on a hill and the caller is down I can get around 100 yards. I dont usually have it farther then 75 yards anyways.

foxpro is a lot better then the PM-4. Minaska is good as well.

johnny stewart has great sounds, but I just dont like their callers. my pm-3 doesnt have enough volume and im pretty sure the pm-4 isnt as loud as my foxpro as well.

Ive owned a few FoxPro's and they are top notch. Customer service is like Leupold here in Canada, excellent!!
Lots of guys are dumping their FX3's for the Fury which is supposed to be the cats meooooow :D

when i used my pm3, id always use it on the default volume level and it was plenty loud enough except on really windy days. but then again its kinda pointless hunting on really windy days as even the pros success rates are cut in half...

here in ontario most predator hunting is done in the bush or in fields that are usually less than 300 yards where you dont need much volume at all. a coyote can hear you rodent squeaking from 500 yards away on a calm day in a field. i figure more coyotes are spooked by loud calling than a lot of average hunters want to believe. ill never understand why people feel the need to call as loud as some do.

coyotes can hear a heck of a lot better than us and loud calling will seem out of place to many yotes.

look at deer calls...a grunt tube is nice and quiet yet bucks can hear them from a few hundred yards away;)

but then out west you likely need the volume where you can see the yotes from a mile away ;)

I use my caller for howls quite a bit too. Never got a responce from the pm-3 for the year ive used it. first time with the fx3 I had one answer about 15 seconds after I did the first howl. Shot that coyote after he came in about 15 minutes after my howl on full volume. I bet that coyote came from about a mile away. Highly doubt hed hear that howl from the pm-3
