Yote Pelts...

They are sold to either a fur buyer or sent off to an auction to be sold. Then the buyer makes clothing with them. Usually coyote fur is used as a trim item - that's the fur around hoods, wrists etc.

skins

u can skin the dog and sell the pelt under your small game lic a good pelt handled with care might get u 20 bucks find a trapper in your area he will help u out Tim

depends on where you are at too, coyotes in different areas have differing pelts and fetch different prices.

A friend of mine hunts coyotes on the reserve (hes native) and he says that using a a .222 or .22-250 would be best since the exit hole is very small if there is even one. Also, he gets 100 bucks per pelt. But i'm sure its like what MiG25 said, depends on where your at too.

I thought the same way.... 100 bucks is quite a bit! Hes a co-worker and about 65 years old so i don't think hes stretching the truth at all. But he is native and he does take it to another guy in the reserve near Brantford, ON.

If that makes the difference....?

The difference isn't the actual location per se, it's the grade of pelt. Some areas typically produce a higher grade than others. Top grade is usually considered to be the Alberta/Montana white or grey. As suggested from the name this animal is most commonly found in the western plains. Lighter skins fetch more $$, darker skins less. The light grey / off-white western coyote is becoming rarer due to crossbreeding with dogs. Most of the pics I've seen of eastern coyotes indicates they can be very dark.

actually the opposite here has been the rule...more money for darker ones. All we have shot this year have been prime. Quite a surprise after the last couple of years when mange was so rampant, I shot two in a row a couple of years ago that didn't have as much hair as a hog.
