You Know that Your Scope is Mounted Low Enough When...

I’ve had that happen more than once. Then you have to make the decision: do you use higher rings, or say to heck with the lens cap.

I mounted a scope on an airgun, that I couldn't get the scope bikini cap on. But it was a AO, and the dial wasn't fully round. Because a certain setting, the dial would touch the gun. Don't think you can get any lower.

Worst I've done when I was young and stupid, was filling down the bump on a BSA Contender AO :p
- The scope was cheap enough, the cheek weld was good... the heck if I was going to buy higher rings

Worst I've seen
- Some guy thought the bell could clear the barrel, it didn't. When he tightened rings (without double checking), he kinked the scope body...

If you're too low to fit regular lens cap, you could always see if any of the camera clip-in cap works

That’s funny, I filed the bump off one of those scopes also, then touched er up with a black rattle can.....

When I end up with a bruised cheek bone after firing a box of shells.

No pain, no gain.

But seriously - what is the obsession with mounting scopes as low as possible?

This was a thing back when stocks were designed with lots of drop at the comb/heel, thats how line of sight was optimized for 'irons' or open sights.

We are now into the 21st century, and stocks are designed with minimal drop at the heel which generally helps recoil management. Some folks are stuck in their ways I guess!

Those are genius! I would have never thought of that!
