Well today I met up with my gunsmith Joe Kroetsch
and picked up my 6ppc.
As promised,Joe said he would have it ready before the warm weather hit.
I'm pretty excited and just wanted to share.
I'm waiting for powder and a guide rod, then I'll fireform a couple of cases and get a Harrells die.
Kelby Panda action.
Kelby rings
Short and fat Maclennan barrel.
Jewel BR trigger
Weaver T36 Scope.
Robertson Speedy stock.
This is my first serious rifle, and I know I'm going to have a long
enjoyable shooting season working it out.

That's a nice looking rig.
Joe has also done some work for me. Great guy and awesome Gun Smith.
That's funny, as Joe once told me. "Short and fat is where it's at". We're talking
about barrels of course. :)
Anyways Lef T, you must be going to shoot bench Rest.

Thanks for the compliment on the rifle.
Yes it was Joe who also explained to me that"Short and fat was where it's at.
Joe took me and another Gunnut out to the Twin City range today for a tour.
That is one nice range.

It aids

Very sweet.
1 question...why such high rings?

when shooting free recoil by keeping your cheek off of the stock. Shooting shortrange Benchrest is all about consistency. I believe the least one handles or holds the rifle the better. The only part of my body touching my rifle when I shoot is my finger on the trigger and my shoulder barely touching the rifle. Get the odd scope kiss when the bags are slicked up REAL GOOD.

I take it that short and fat barrel is a HV taper?

Peanut

did you not order your stock in the color you wanted?

It sounds like you are going to get it painted???????

Word of advice save your money. Finish on these stocks is PHENOMINAL....

I believe this post was directed to Peanut, but I was also going to get my stock painted.
I bought the stock from a buddy who had ordered it in red.
Joe talked me out of painting it.
The Robertson finish is very nice...very smooth.

It's warm and sunny here in southern Ontario.
My boss told me to go home, load some 6ppc and head to the range
to fireform and break in the barrel.
I need to fireform a few cases,so I can ship them off to Harrells
and get a sizing die.
I want to get the rifle sighted in also.
Life is pretty good today.

Yea, this stock is used. Me and another CGNer are doing a swap. Trouble is the stock has already been re-painted and is not really my cup of tea, so I want to change it.

Must be ruff.

Great setup !! What made you decide to go with .262 you already set up for it?

Nowadays, with the great Lapua brass and the chore of neck turning in 2 steps with a 262 I'm curious why you didn't go 269 or even 265

I just built my second 6ppc in 269 (Jackie Schmidts reamer print from ptg) I am really glad I did they both shoot great.

I'm looking forward to trying the new IMR 8208. I use H322 now.

Do you browse benchrest.com?

Mike

Hey there Mike,
I had 100 new pieces of neck turned Lapua brass for a 262 chamber.
That was my deciding factor.
If I was to turn my own brass,I probably would have went with 268.
I'm going to try N133 with 68gr.bullets.
I've posted a couple of times on benchrest.com
There's always something new to learn.
