Ok all you cowboys. Why is the trigger on a single action Colt or Replica off to the left. Samuel Colt designed them that way. You tell me why just out of curiosity. I have heard different things.
Thanks age

If you look at the left side of the frame there are three screws, the hammer pivots on the right hand screw, the trigger pivots on the middle screw and the cylinder bolt pivots on the left screw. The cylinder bolt is activated by riding on the right side of the lower hammer and beside it on the left is the trigger, there isn't much room inside the frame so the trigger winds up off centre to the left.

i was miss lead. Colt designed it because he was a left hand shooter Then i was told it was because of trigger controll .Sucks for left hand shooters? What ever I never knew why the trigger was off to one side Thanks guys

I just loked at my BFR in single action and the trigger is in the middle. This is a different breed No cowboys folding hogs over with a 454 casull lol thanks guys for your help

Well, the frame of a BFR is a tad larger than the classic 1873 frame. So it's no surprise that there's room to put in a centered trigger.

Unless your talking cap and ball colts, Colt himself didn't design it. He went to his death bed swearing no colt would ever have a solid frame. The 1873's where designed by the colt company, though i believe that the internals are all but identical with the later cap and ball guns.

The trigger offset doesn't affect me as a left handed shooter on a peacemaker. I find the older cap and ball models to be uncomfortable for me though.
