I was at the range today with my trust old Brno #1 and a Cooey repeater I have had for a number of years, but never shot.
The Brno is a beautiful, slick rifle that inspires confidence. It is the house "predator" gun and sit by the back door, ready to engage porcupines and skunks (we have dogs here on the farm) and the racoons that like to tear off the house siding. So far it has nailed 22 racoons.
I decided to test both rifles at 25 yards, using 4 different boxes of ammo. I shot off sandbags, on the bench, using the standard open iron sights. My eyes are not that good, but I used the same eyeball with both rifles.
The Brno trigger is nicer, but the Cooey was quite good.
If you had made a bet, you would have bet on the Brno. I know I would have. And lost.
The Cooey shot the best groups and was not ammo fussy. All 4 groups were about the same size.
The Cooey was stock except for one minor mod I made at the range, before shooting. A slipped a piece of ammo box carboard under the forend.
This does not look right, so I will scrub the Brno barrel, and try again.
I will give the Cooey front sight another nudge, and it has now become the rifle at the back door. It is not as easy to load and unload, but is clearly more accurate.
