just got in from a couple hours of gopher shooting!!!! some of the femails & young are out. Got my first double of the year. even got couple magpies that were doing clean up.300 rd of 22,lots of fun

I spent a good part of an afternoon dealing with the brown menace in my uncle's pasture out in SK with the Old Man's 219 Donaldson Wasp. From what I'm told the breeding males are the first out, then the females. They breed and the males head back underground to hibernate again (Unc took a poison control course and found all this good stuff out). I guess if you want to put a dent in the population, it's the first ones you want to eliminate. If you want long term sustainable gophering, shoot the ones in May, not March/April.

Oh sure, rub it in already ;) We just got hit with 2"-5" of wet snow (varied in the general area) this morning and although it melted, it's drizzling rain and about +5C at my place. A good day to stay in and research guns & stuff :)

BIG UGLY the wasp sounds interesting. your gore skor should be high. I usually take along a 22 center fire of some sort. It was a Ruger #3 in hornet this time. Only shot a few rounds as everything was close. A J

Some of the best gun research is done in the gopher patch. :p

southern alberta gopher shoot

hey guys i want to come out and shot some gophers anybody in southern alberta can help me out with a location or contact name? thanks glenn

depends on what you mean by "southern"- the areas around brooks and south to the border used to be very profitable- anywhere that would be defined as "prairie"

Seal Hunter;the best conditions for shooting is warm clear and calm. Because the rodents are at the bottom of the food chain the want the odds of spotting a predator. The best conditions are also when the mosquitos are out so be prepared,I am still itchy A J

The Macyntire property. :onCrack:

Or maybe not the best idea.
Come on out, pick a nice spot away from everyone else, knock on a farmers door and I can almost garuntee he will be more than happy to let you have at his field. Just don't shoot towards his livestock, pivots or anything, and you'll probably be welcome back too.
