As an old sailor, I know that you can't tune a sailboat without another boat to sail along with you.

OK, so while I wait to get my ST-200 peep installed, let's have some groups listed here. As we are all honest :), images are not needed, just the extreme diameter in inches to include all 5 shots, at 100 and 200 yds.

This will give me something to strive for.

Please state what sights,

-peep by brand
-scope

200 meter SKS target

SKS Tula 56, CZ surplus ammo both from Lever Arms, stock iron sights, benched on sandbags.

Target is a letter size sheet of paper, the back side of a laserprinted downloaded target, distance is 200 meters, 5 consecutive shots, shot at POCO range June 22, 2009.

Group is about 8 inches high x 5 inches wide.

Shooting a white target is different than shooting a dark grey steel gong. At least that's my excuse for hitting only 8/20 in the first gong shoot, and 5/20 in the second:D.

SKS's can really be made to shoot. Although not a stock SKS my any stretch, last Sunday I shot a measured 300m 4.5" (Thats less than 2 min) group from the prone position, slung, scoped with my SKSanov. We fitted a 26" P-14 barrel, cut and rechambered, to an old Chinese reciever I had laying around. This was accomplished with a 150 grn FMJ boat tail .308 bullet on top of 26.6 grains of Varget.

I have now fitted this rifle with a set of Central T sights and I plan on using it for the 30th of Aug NRA 200m match.

That would be an interesting looking rig. Got any pics??

Sly Old Fox, check out the SKS Honor Match threads. It was essentially a 5 shot accuracy match at 100m. I have fired a couple of open sight groups of 2 1/4" at 100m with one of my Chinese guns and another around 2 1/2" with a mid era triangle 26.

Given the plethora of Russian guns coming onto the market at the time I was hoping for better turnout but there were some good photos posted.
I would like to see the Enfield/SKS as well :)

Cheers

Ike's groups are remarkable but while I have many years in the past done this at times with open sights (a great old 99 Savage in .303Sav with cast bullets) and more frequently with bolt guns and peeps, I really need a peep or scope now.

I've tried to find the threads that Ike mentions to no avail.

Dont forget to give info re: sights.

LOL, those groups were the exception and not the norm. My eyes have started to change over the past 2 seasons so it is not as easy to see the stock sights anymore. I have a scope mount and will scope my SKS at some point.
I will post when I get it done :)
cheers
