rough bore. recenty picked up a mosin. after spending 2 hours cleaning the barrel, its still rough.

i used boiling soapy water and bore cleaner and countless runs with the copper brush, aswell as windex.

ill try to get a picture of the bore up sometime today.

thanks for any tips.

i should have mentioned, its my newly purchased mosin close sniper, with iron sights it shot high, but after an hour i got it shoot bulls eyes at 25 yards, but.. i would love for the bore to look better.

If it's pitted it will never look good. It may still shoot fine however, so don't get too caught up in trying to clean the "rough" out of it.

I plug the barrel and soak solvent in it for two days.

I also use the Gunslik bore cleaning foam. Keep putting it to it, (follow the instructions), till the fowm does not come out blue or black.

dip a bore brush in chrome polish and go to town. It's mildly abrasive so you dont want to clean it like this all the time, but as a one time affair, I find it cleans up a rotten bore nicely.

JB works good on those. The non-embeding sort that is.
just rub the paste on the patch..... shiny.
I'd try it on some ol' gals, but on a sniper...... I don't know.

I cleaned a lot of rust out of an old Enfield bore using mainly Hoppes 9 and a Bore Snake. You can get Bore Snakes at Canadian Tire.

Thank you all for the great ideas.

at then moment the barrel is plugged and soaking in windex, after a 2 day period im going to give hobbes and amonia a try and pic up a bore snake.

see where that takes me.
