I'm Just curious as to what my fellow Canadian GunNutz choose as a Grouse Rifle?

The choices are what I have seen used in the bush the past few years. :)

Myself...I like my .22 LR rifles.

My grouse guns over the years have been .22short, .22LR, .22Mag, .410, 12gauge, and centerfire rifles with cast bullets/reduced loads, but the most fun is my 12 gauge SxS percussion muzzleloader.

There is something about stomping through the fall leaves with my dog, muzzleloader, possibles bag, and fannypack with lunch. Those are the outing you remember for a lifetime.

Started with a .410 double, and since about 5 years ago have been going with a 12 Gauge. I find the 12 gauge to be more versatile for the other critters on the licence.

Also, .410 ammo is getting harder to find at a good price. Reload all the way!!

I was out yesterday with my ten-year-old; he seems to be of the same opinion, .22lr to the neck.

I have used 12 ga., .410, and .22lr, but yesterday I used a 16 ga. side-by-side for the first time and have to say its a lot of fun. I suppose I base my choice on how I feel on a particular day. Today, I think I'd go with the 16 ga. If I think I may have a chance at surprising some ducks, or maybe a goose, I'll take a 12 ga.. If either of my sons are with me and I want them to do most of the shooting, it'll be either the .22lr or the .410 or both. If I'm looking to brush-up my skills for larger rifles, I take the .22lr. They're all fun.

Ammo for the 16 ga. can be hard to find, but its usually pretty inexpensive and I buy enough for the year when I come accross a supply. I agree that the .410 is getting a tad expensive.

Depends if I am grouse hunting or shopping for groceries.

If I am grouse hunting, I"ll take my 20 gu O/U.

If it is groceries on the way to camp, it's a .22 or a single shot 20 gu beater.

I also use centerfire rifles alot if I fee like grouse for dinner that night.:p

Canada's deadliest game

Grouse have accounted for more human predation than any other animal. A big blue grouse male can cause even the burliest of hunters to suffer a coranary when they take off close to you. After you are down they swoop in and start eating you Nothing less than a 460 Weath mag for me. Oh yeah and a fresh diaper as well.:D

More true words have never be spoken. They scare the crap out of you when the bush is quiet.
