Hello,

I thought I might start the debate about which .22 ammo people like most and why.

No trolling, everyone has favourites. And they are different, else there would only be one brand ;)

I was figuring a format like demonstrated below:

For myself, it's CCI Blazer .22LR Ammo
- Cheap, High Volume $26.99/box of 500+
- Widely Available, nearly every Canadian Tire carries it
- Accurate - I put holes in holes with my Winchester Model 150 at 100 yards
- Clean ammo, little residue
- Pleasant smell, powder doesn't smell acrid like Remington/Winchester's
- Reliable, I've had 3 misfires in about 3000 rounds.
- Lead only tips, no copper fouling
- Deadly, has claimed many varmints at 50 + yards (crows included)!

Al-right! Let the discussion commence!

Sincerely,
Adrian

Well that depends on use. For plinking I agree Blaser is #1. It's an accurate and reliable round in every gun I have used it in. For hunting I would choose CCI Velocitors. They print nice groups and smack critters hard. I don't get erratic groupings like I do with Stingers as well.

Federal Champion - works well with CMMG AR-15 .22 conversoin kits, are pretty cheap.

Win555/333 is also pretty good.

another vote for the Winchester 555's. Found that they work very well in all of my .22's and they are magical on gophers. They have a nice deep hollowpoint and expand extremely well. $20/555 rds at Walmart. I have about 25 or so bricks in the gunroom waiting for next spring. :D

A couple of my .22's absolutely love Rem yellowjackets as well- these suckers hit hard...I bought several bricks in Edmonton last year at $32/500.

CCI definitely gets my vote!

Blazer is amazing for plinking and functions in the semi autos, and handguns, that seem to be fussy. It is also very accurate for the price.

Standard Velocity is by far the best of the relatively cheaper stuff, in my new Savage. I have shot some dime size groups at 50m and thats about as good as it gets before jumping up to the target stuff.

CCI Velocitor is the best all round if price is not taken into consideration. They are the fastest in 40 grain which is good for small game. Otherwise, for the price I like the 555/333 winchester bulk ammo. 1280 fps in a 40 grain HP is pretty damned good and it's 100%reliable in all my .22's (1 CZ & 3 Ruger's)

Eley Tenex and Match in my bench rifle, here you get what you pay for.
Eley Match and Lapua Center X in a BSA Martini
SK Standard Plus and CCI SV in my Savage FVSR, very accurate for a cheap rifle.
Winchester 555's in my Buckmark, accurate and CHEAP.

Winchester 333/555. Cheap, hits gophers hard and is as accurate as I am (both my .22's have iron sights). When borrowing my Old Man's scoped Marlin 880SQ, Winchester Power Points get the nod.

Blazer is 1st for me and Federal 525 bulk pack is second (at $21 a brick how can you complain?)

But I have yet to try all the different brands of 22 ammo. Maybe I should try the CCI next?

x2........ i have really enjoyed the Federal 525 bulk. And the price is great. I'm gonna try blazer next time around to check it out i think....... :)

Because most of my shooting with the .22 LR is now at Gophers, I am using Federal 525 Bulk ammunition. I do find that American Eagle 40 grain solids can be accurate in a lot of rifles, and I have a flat of Federal Gold Medal Match that my Remington 513S absolutely loves. It works well in my Kimber 82G also.

Wow for $21 thats great. Here its ~$29 last I seen. The cheapest is win 555 at $19.98. Even canadian tire wants something like $26 got dynapoiont gt

It's about finding the ammo they like of course.... My Anschutz bolt action likes Federal Gold Medal Target. My Norinco Backpacker~CCI Sub Sonic HP, My Savage .22 WMR~Hornady 30 grain V-Max.

Cooey 75~it's new (2 me) but seems to like everything so far. :)
