I have the Stainless Steel one and fired about 6000 rounds
through it in the last 6 years. Just now barrel bushing cracked.
No big deal, but what next ?

I would like other users opinion and experience,
as I like to keep on going with it.

Talk to Gunner at Armco, he is the best out that way with 1911's, he could tell you what needs to be done.

Thank you.
Well, he lives only a 100 miles away.
I shall ask him !
Thank you !

I've had the blued Delta since they were first available in Canada( 1988 ?) and shortly after picked up the stainless model with target sights.Between the two I've fired probably 4000 rds each with out any failures except for the front sight shearing clean off the stainless model when near new.I will say that carefull handloads replicating 40 S&W specs has helped preserve both guns with the real hot stuff saved for possible hunts for boar down south. Both guns have early on used a full length guide rod and a 18 1/2 lb. spring for most range work keeping the slide battering down to a minimum.Still shooting both to this day and must say that the round is probably nearing cult status in terms of sales of reloading dies so say the stats as of late.
jackpine really likes this round!

So does Billy The Kid!!

I have a Delta (blue) as well and have owned it for over 10 years and it soaks up everything that I have ran through it.

I did, however, put a Wilson Shok Buff system in it + heavier springs........

I had one back about 14 years ago, in the first 250 rounds it broke an extractor, at about 1000rds the front sight flew out of it,then at about 2000rds the slide stop started to work its way out of the frame. Oh yah when I first got it I changed out the "Plastic" trigger and "Plastic" arched mainsring housing:mad: .But it shot very well once all the bugs were worked out of it. Must have been made on a Friday afternoon. And my loads were not hot they were 180 gr going at about 950fps.

But the S&W 1006 I had went through about 20,000 rds without a single part breakage or anything done to the weapon other than cleaning it.

But I still like Colts:)

Thank you all.
Interesting, as my stainless Delta Elite also lost it's frontsight
after about 800 rounds.
After many thousands of rounds
with 175 gr. cast bullets & with 5.5 gr. Bullseye at approx. 1050 fps
and shooting 2" groups consistently, my barrel bushing cracked.
My first 1000 rounds were full power. Then I backed off to make it last.
My .45 can duplicate that easily. I prefer the S&W 1006 !

I always liked to have a S&W 1006, but never saw one for sale yet.
New ones still available somewhere?

I have seen a few S&W 1006's on this site, one looked to be in very nice condition with 5 mags. And I forgot to mention that I also installed the Wilson shok-buff system which in my opinion is an absolute must for the longevity of the Delta whether blued or st. stl. Currently doing some mods' on the blued model in the way of a tritium front sight and an adjustable rear,Ed Brown Memory groove beavertail safety and Ed Br. ambi-safety,short Videcki trigger and a trigger job.Going to do a better aftermarket barrel and bushing later but undecided about which to go with as this is my answer to things that bump in the night! I'll be keeping the bells and whistles down to a minimum as I'm very fond of these Delta's as they are out of the box but as most Colts' they do need some refinements and/or enhancements for shooters(like jackpine) whose hands are on the small side.Had my st. stl Delta out at the 100 meter a while back and managed to whack the gongs with a surprising regularity using the Nosler 135 gr. JHP at about 1450 ft/sec..It sure is hard to beat a Colt 1911 butI'm sure glad I bought mine when I did as the current prices are through the roof.I'm a 10 MM fan for life as I'm very fond of the cartridge also.Too bad the F.B.I could not see beyond the issue of "unmanageable recoil" thereby eliminating the cartridge during their tests and evaluations where second shot sight aquisition in a combat scenario was largely unattainable for most agents and played a heavy role in its rejection.I'm also glad that the criminal element has not seen very much of this cartridge also as its probably confusing to most would-be armed robbers.

I legally carry the Delta Elite in the bush.
I know what it can do .
I also have the Wilson shok-buff in it

I shoot 9mm and .45 too, but the 10 mm is
my all time favorite.

I will admit to one thing about the 10MM Auto and that is I'm glad it has a limited following because it means fewer gunners out there have 'em whether they be legal or other. The fact that it is a cartridge that needs constant re-aquainting with in terms of being a proficient shooter with it and being able to whack your target with the second or third follow up shot is really where all the fun is.In reality though when the 40S&W made its debut with the LEO'S out there it took the LEO community by storm and didn't look back iether and that's O.K. too as the bad guys out there needed a wake up call with something of greater authority and the '40 cals do this well.Let's face it the 9's and the 38's just don't impress the bad guys like a 40 or a 45 does.
