Your dream rifle

I finally have my dream hunting rifle, a custom LH Mauser chambered in 280 Remington, with a pretty walnut stock with fleur d lis (?) checkering, a black fore end tip, and what I believe to be the best sling available, a Montana 1 1/4" brown leather Trigger and receiver work was performed by the barrel maker, McGowan in Montana, topped with a nice 3.5-10 Leupold. Oh, it also has a Win model 70 type wing safety. OK, that's mine, what's yours. Doesn't have to be built yet, just what do you think you really want. Yeah, I'm a Fudd, with no excuses.

Well, this was supposed to be my dream rifle, my "one gun for everything". If I weren't such a nit-picky perfectionist I'd probably be satisfied with it.

It's a 7x57, aka .275 Rigby. The biggest issue is that it turned out heavier than intended. The pitch on the buttplate is not quite right either. The dream turned into a bit of a nightmare with regards to cost overruns. You'd almost think it was a government project.

My second take on the perfect rifle is a work in progress. It started as a commercial Mauser 98 in .30/06, and will stay in .30/06 and is in the process of being rebarreled at the moment. The original barrel was too neglected. I'm doing the stock work myself, and if it turns out decently I'll post a thread when it's done, but this is the inspiration:

Mine would be a custom 9.3x62 in a Mauser action(ZG47?) in a nice piece of walnut, in the English stalking rifle style( slander fore end) with a shwable(?) fore end tip! Red/orange but pad, nice open sight with a 3 leaf’s rear and a hooded ramped front! Would be 21” barrel, barrel band sling swivel, nice deep blueing, fine checkering, butter knife style bolt handle, fairly open pistol grip, single set trigger( maybe double set trigger for the ###-appeal hahaha)… 14”LOP! You get the idea!

I have mine. A Model 90D NAACO in 30-06. Canadian built, FN commercial action, Williams Twilight 4x scope, Weaver steel rings, Made in Canada Cooper-Weekes sling, White Line recoil pad. Assembled in Toronto late 60's/early 70's. A real Fudd rifle. :p

I've got a lot of WANT guns out there, I'd love a custom shop Weatherby Mark V or a hand-fitted Beretta O/U, but if I had no limit to money I would probably place my first order with a Blaser dealer for an R8 Luxus with a pair of barrels in 6.5x55 and 8x68.

It will be a long time before I could justify spending that kind of money on a rifle though, nor do I think I would want to take something like that into the field to get the crap kicked out of it, so I would probably stick to the Mark V dream. I have a Mark V Hunter, but to round it out I'd want a Peak 44 stock and a Razor LHT for it. And swap the factory Triggertech out for a Triggertech Special with a flat trigger.

I'd also love to do a .400 Whelen on a Winchester M70 CRF action in a custom walnut stock. Gloss blue with open sights and a lightweight riflescope in QD rings. Tasty.

I am more than happy with my 300 savage , for how and where I hunt it's just about prefect.

I'm a simple man who'd be happy with a Rem. 600 350 Rem. Mag.(with dies and abundant virgin cases).

Oh yeah, best through in some primers too!

I'm pretty happy with my faux Rigby Stalker in 275Rigby.

It's nice, but not too nice or collectable that I wouldn't want to use it on a regular basis.

I have several dreams
275 Rigby and 375 rimless nitro express matching pair in a stalking rifle setup

450/400 3" nitro sxs by a an English maker

Holland & Holland rook rifle in 25/20.
Holland & Holland 410 rifled sxs round body back action sidelock

Always wanted a Browning White Gold Medallion Shot Show Special 375 h&h with octagon barrel. I himmed and hawed when I could have bought one. Haven't seen one since.
