Hi all - Looking for your recommendations for keeping a rifle handy while you're driving your side by side.

My machine is an older Polaris Ranger with the wide open bench seat. Lots of dash space and floor space to work with, and nothing on the roll cage except the roof. I'd like to have a pretty secure attachment for one or two rifles that's still quick and easy to access. I use it in pretty rough and steep country here - Not hard use or anything like that, just slow and bumpy with lots of sidehill.

I've been using the tool bin between the cab and the box (it's a 6x6), or having a passenger hang on to it, but neither is great. It seems like I probably want one of those Kolpin brackets, but I've never used one.

What do you think? Any input is appreciated, thanks.

Have the Koplin Rhino grips mounted on the rear roll cage under the roof. Took a bit of sweat to mount them but the are solid. So far so good carrying any firearms I have Can flip them up when not being used
Mounted on a Kawasaki mule

I just lay mine across my lap...dust is the biggest problem though :(

If the ground is damp I have the full windshield installed if its dry I have a Half windshield in place...my SxS has doors and heat.

Probably a overhead rack inside the cab would be the best place to carry a rifle.

Thanks folks - I like the idea of that freestanding one, Boo, but keninon's flip-up brackets are appealing since they're not in the way all of the time. No free lunch I guess.

this winter i installed a magnet on the grab bar of my jeep. it holds a shotgun in an upright position and you have to give it a good tug to get it free. i liked it so well i have bought a second one . i purchased it at bullseye a sight sponsor in London Ont. it is called a lockdown and is specifically made for firearms.

I like the sound of that. Does it require some kind of shoe on the floor to keep the butt from moving?

I use the Cabelas TAC system double gun case on my pioneer 500. It mounts to the back roll bar. The guns go in from each side so it's handy for my passenger too. It's padded and keeps the dust off, plus it has a rain fly, some additional storage pockets and molle webbing. Got it on sale for $100 about 2 years ago and love it. Oh and works for fishing rods too!

I've got what Boo has sitting out in the shop not being used.
Floor mount is for an older Rhino.
The Rhino I had it wouldn't work in it without major renovations.

Let me know iff'in yer interested in it.
Might cost a bit to mail it?

The rain fly helps keep the heavy mud and dust off and other than that I've just rinsed with a hose and let it dry. Only had to do that once. The most important thing for me is that the contents stay clean and dust free.

Good to know, thanks.

And thanks kamlooky, I'll do some digging and PM you if that's the right answer for me.

I ordered the UTV Double gun carrier from UTV Direct for my new sxs ('22 Wolverine X2). No room for the devices described above in my macchine.
So far happy with it, but haven't seen serious use and duty as yet. Like that it will keep firearms dust/dirt free.
also looking at an overhead in-the-cab roof rack for the single shot shotgun for ruffies, and a longbow or recurve bow.

I finally found a picture of the Rhino set up I ended up yews'in.
Heavy fark'in thang.
Guns like to rattle in these hard case bewts.
Be wary of short rifles when using them.
Make sure the scope doesn't hit the taper in the hard case.
Tennis bawlzs stuffed in there first would be a good bet.

I guess there's no way to avoid the gun bouncing around in there, unless you padded out the existing soft liner. Which would then make it even harder to get the gun out in a hurry...

It's helpful to hear all these suggestions, thanks folks. I think I'm closer to knowing what I want, which is some kind of uncased rack/grabber. For really dusty conditions I'd throw the gun in the enclosed/sealed tool box behind the cab. Most importantly, I want to have a very fast-access solution in the cab, where I don't have to worry about the gun coming loose on slow bumps and steep sidehills.
