Scout-you have to be where the birds are to get one
Call very little, it is hard not to keep calling when he gobbles every time you do, but DON'T
PATIENCE!!!!!!

As 44Fordy says, patience is very important in the turkey hunting game. An old turkey hunter once told me, "if you are thinking of moving to try another spot, sit tight for another 20 minutes. This has paid off twice for me already in my turkey hunting career.

My second tip to new to turkey hunters would be to NOT over-call. 4 - 8 hen yelps every 5-8 minutes is plenty of calling IMHO. Once you here a gobbler answer your calls resist the urge to keep calling. Once the bird is in sight, keep quiet. The exception here might be for making a couple of soft clucks on a mouth call if the tom hangs up far out.

#3: Always have your firearm in a position to fire at all times (safety on). I have a neat little gadget that straps to my knee that alows me to keep my shotgun barrel safely balanced on my knee. My turkey vest also has a strap that goes around the butt of the shotgun, keeping it close to my shoulder.

Get out there & have fun turkey hunting!
