Hey everybody,

Just looking for some feedback on how pistol-shooters position their feet when engaging a single target in a standing position, assuming a two-handed hold and no time limit.

I ask because I usually just square myself up with the target, feet a little more than shoulder-width apart, slight bend at both knees, and lean into the gun.

And because I've seen other shooters deliberately place one foot slightly farther back than the other foot, and seen some instructors advocating it, I'm considering if I should switch to a new stance with one foot slightly further back.

I still use my current stance because action shooting requires dynamic movements and up to 180 degree torso twists, I assumed that placing the feet even with each other gave the most flexibility.

Appreciate any comments, ideas, or advice!

Couple points. (I predominantly use a modified weaver stance when stationary).

In action shooting sports, odds are that other than a small fraction of your shooting, you will be in awkward stances/positions.

Shooting through a small 6"x6" window? Unless you are the perfect height to line up, you are stretching or squatting to get a good sight picture.

Shooting around cover/obstacle/etc... not a perfect stance now.

Shooting on the move? No real stance, just a slight pause at best.

Balance! Stability! FUN!
