Your thoughts on a Remington 11-87?

Looking to buy a Remington 11-87 sportsman 12ga 3" chamber, does anyone have any experinence with these shotguns, how is the reliablilty??
Your opinons would be apprieciated.

They are the same gun as the REM 1100, for all intents and purposes. Because of all the residue from burnt powder, keeping them clean is completely necessary for them to cycle. They will last you a long,long time.
 
The 11-87 are far much better than the 1100. I owned a 1100 and i found they the ring gasket always went and missed fired. so i change to the 11-8 semi and i like. just make sure you keep it clean..... superhunter..
 
I've owned a 11-87 and a couple of 1100s. They are adequate guns but are not quite in the same league as the current production Beretta, Browning/Winchester gas-operated shotguns.
 
I've owned several 1100's and presently have an 11-87.Great guns all. If you keep them clean they will cycle reliably. I shoot mine often and have very few jams even with cheap ammo. Parts are easy to find and the gas system is so simple any one can maintain it. Having said all this I tend to go along with Claybusters comments. Lately several Beretta 391's, Winchester X2's and Browning Gold's have shown up at our club. I've tried them all and stripped them down to see how they work. Excellent designs and very well made guns,fun to shoot and many cuts above the old Rem's in reliabilty. My next semi will be one of these 3.
 
But you have to compare apples to apples, the equivilent gun to the one in question is twice the price before adding kick-off options and such. for that I should expect it to be better.

I hunted waterfolw with one for couple of years. Nice gun, would shoot duck loads all day.
The problem with my 11-87 ,3" mag was on the sporting clay range I could not shoot 50 rounds of light loads through it with out getting misfeeds. Tried two or three diferent types of shells no better.The 11-87 sporting is 2 3/4" and will shoot the lighter loads far better
I switch to a Beretta, and will never look back. It eats any shells I feed it. In three years I have never has a misfeed.
Just my .02 cents worth

That's the sorta thing that makes the Beretta and the like worth the extra money. :)
