your thoughts on the 9.3x64 brenneke

Good evening everyone. I hope everyone is doing well

I have been thinking for a while now of building a 9.3x64 Brenneke. Just checking to see if anyone has been using this cartridge? What is the felt recoil like? I currently have a 338-06 that i have no problem with recoil. I know that brass can be a pain to find. I would be building off a Sako AV that is currently 9lbs scoped. Probably go with a Ron Smith Barell.I know that i would have to open up the bolt face also. Who knows, maybe throw it in a mcmillan stock.

I get these crazy thoughts once in a while. Its not like i need it, My 338-06 is my favorite elk/moose slayer. Its just one of those things. Kind of like golf, you use more than one club.

Sounds like a good reason to get another gun. I have a 9.3x57, 2- 9.3x62, and if i didn't already have a 375 H&H in Ruger #1 i would have bought a 9.3x74R in a number #1.
 
9.3x64 is more akin to the .375 H&H than it is to .338/06. Brass is very hard to come by. It does turn up, but not cheap and not often.

The 9.3x62 would be more comparable to the .338/06, plus Lapua brass is readily available, though still expensive.
 
9.3x62 will produce 4000ft/lbs of energy with a 286gr safely loaded to 2500fps. That's probably enough for just about anything on the planet, and PRVI/Hornady make brass that is readily available. Don't think the 9.3x64 is worth the hassle.
 
brass is the only issue other than that some experts considered better than the 375hh at the time, but that was before the 375 ruger came in ...

one of the euro caliber like the 8x68s not well known outside of inner circle but loved by users.
 
The 9.3x64 is very comparable in power and recoil to the 375 H&H. I have 2 of them. The first was put together in Ralph Martins's shop. Built on a mauser 98. Action is as smooth as silk. The other is a German made rifle. Power of a 375 in a std length action. RWS brass is not that common but you do find it occasionally. If you have access to a small lathe brass can be made from 338 or 458 brass. Cut the belt off, rebate the rim slightly ,recut the extractor groove, once through the FL size die,load and shoot. I have found that Win brand brass so converted has the same capacity as RWS brass and accepts the same loads
