Hey guys,

I was offered a LNIB FNX 45 and after reading some reviews it's seem to be an excellent pistol but I would like to get your thoughts on it from real life experience.

Thanks in advance

Cheers
Mario

my thoughts? I want one.

That being said: talk to redbearded1. He's got one and has had some issues with mags dropping free. I guess the grip and magwell itself are polymer, and on his it can tighten under a shooters hand.

I really wanted one, but I had a chance to put an older FNP model in my hand that was at my range selling on consignment which I hear is almost identical(FNX is just newest model), and it just didn't fit my hand as well as I was hoping. Its a big square feeling grip, and it makes sense after feeling it that I read people say it feels like a 2x4. I still want one, but I just decided to buy a Glock 21C first instead for my first .45, the Glock just fits my hand better. I have read and watched a lot of reviews on the FNX and people say its a fantastic shooting pistol, so I still plan to buy one in the future.

Since I have an RMR its really nice that the slide has a pocket for it already, and I love the FDE model

I had the older FNP45 and it is a big brick (very similar to FNX45). Not a problem for me as I'm a big guy (wife hated it). However, I found it gets front heavy as the mag unloads. That's just my perception, but I didn't like that about it so sold it off. I'd say if you get a chance to try it out first do that.

I haven't shot a FNX45 yet, but I really want to. Read a lot of good things about them.

Exact same thing happened with my old HK45CT. Doesn't happen with my USPCT though. It was a little frustrating... one of the reasons I sold it.

Ah...USPct45...love that gun (smaller than a FNP/FNX). My wife loves it also. I may lose it to her (she's looking to 'upgrade' from her P2000). But I digress...

ohh yeah. I also want that baby. I have 2 guns for sale and hopefully I'll be able to get the upsct 45 once they are sold

Hi

I have one (FN FNX not the FN FNX tactical version) and think it is a fantastic pistol. It is accurate, reliable and comfortable to shoot.
When it was brand new the mags would not drop free but within a couple dozen mag changes, it was not an issue.

I have one. I love it. Everything about it works well for me. It's a real pleasure to shoot. I haven't had any problems with it at all but I've only put about 800rnds through it so far. It's also one of the firearms I offer as a demo unit. The feedback has been very positive so far with the only minor complaint being the size of the grip.

the more I research it on the web the more I want one but it would have to be the tactical version. I love the fact that I could simply install my fastfire II on top of it.

I have an FNX 45 Tactical and it is a fine unit. It has an RMR on it and with the inset mounting it is very easy to bring up to a target. I also have a Sig 226 with an RMR and that one is mounted on top of the slide. I find it difficult to find the dot in certain situations. When you can see the sights and the dot at the same time it is real easy. While I really like the FNX when I compare it to the 220 and the HK MK 23 I would not rate it that high. I have also shot a 227 and would also rate that above both the 220 and the FNX. The HK MK 23 is the easiest shooting 45 I have ever shot. It is stable and does not vibrate or pull in my hand. Granted it is a very big pistol but it just feels better. The FNX feels like it contorts when I shoot it. Almost like it is twisting on the frame. It only has a couple of very short metal rails that the slide holds on to and I think they should be a little longer. Again I am talking about small degrees of difference but I would not choose the FNX over the HK or Sig 227. It depends on what you want in a gun so I will leave it at that. Will I sell the FNX? No, I like the gun. Would I buy another one? No, I think the 227 will be the next 45 I buy.

I have a bit of experience with the FNX 45 Tactical. There are some very cool things about these guns, But there are some major problems as well. First, there is a mag release issue where the mag release button contacts the mag when pressed and wont allow it to drop free. Second, there is another mag release issue, where mags get hung up on the mag release button while INSERTING the mags. Thirdly, there is ANOTHER MAG RELEASE ISSUE, For some reason magazines do not want to drop freely due to being "sticky" in the mag well.

The first and second issue are fairly easily fixed with a file or dremel, and a bit of time. The third is more elusive. There seem to be several possible contributors, but it seems to be more common in the FDE models. I think there is a problem with the polymer personally. Its a little soft and if you grip the gun hard, it torques the magwell and forces contact with the magazine. It seems to react to temp and humidity. I had to send mine back to get it looked at. They did some filing inside the magwell and sent it back to me. It worked much better initially, but the stickiness has crept back.

The biggest problem is that FN KNOWS about these problems(and has for a couple years now) but does its best to ignore them and/or sweep them under the rug. FN customer service has quite the reputation in the states. Spend some time on fnforum dot net and you will see that there is plenty of other users that have had issues.

That being said, I still love it. Just be careful where you buy, and try to test that the mags drop free before buying, or make sure the store has good customer service policies(Wanstalls is Fantastic).
