Your toys , batteries in or out?

How long will you keep batteries in your GPS , Camera (insert whatever you got that takes batteries) etc ...when their sitting idle? and what brand do you trust most?
Have you ever had leaks? I have in flashlights, it sucks

My GPS usually uses up the batteries in two days. I keep it on all the time and dont waste my time with the battery saving feature. So I usually toss them right away. My FRS radios have had a leak but that was my fault. I normally take them out when hunting season is over( I should say when I stop hunting with my group) Flash lights are a ##### and I check them regularly and toss batteries once a year wether they still work or not.

Costco brand batteries are supposed to be one of the better batteries, even better then some brand names. Duracell if I cant get the Costco. Rechargeble batteries???? haven't found any that lasted or held up.

I dont know, imagine they would. But like I said, I have never seen good rechargeable batteries. Maybe some of the new ones are better. If someone knows I'd be interested in knowing.

I'm just happy the FRS radios came along. It was very expensive feeding the Ol' CB!:rockOn:

10 or 11 batteries for a couple days use IIRC

I have a lot of high end stuff that would be ruined if a battery ever leaked. I don't know why but I never seem to take the batteries out for storage!!! The only thing that ever got ruined and it has happened a few times is a flashlight (a cheap army one) For simple commercial batteries I always use Energizers (SP?) and they seem to hold a charge the longest. For my weapons mounted surefires I actually use surefire batteries which have never caused me any grief.

I used to leave mine in all the time until I unpacked my portable depth finder for the ice season. Energizer batteries leaked out all over the place. Ruined the depth finder, or atleast thats what I attribute it not turning on to. From now on if I plan on letting things sit I'm taking my batteries out.

That sucks big time, they say you can use baking soda to clean it up , depending on the product :rolleyes: :( but I seen some messed up gear from battery juice.:puke:
 
I had this older digital camera, I took it down south (Sur Baja Mexico) with me on a trip and it got one little splash from some salt water, it wasn't even turned on, a single drop of water entered through the mic hole on the top, and it fried.

I have used all sorts of batteries, and have found the duracell digital ultra batteries hold up the longest, then the Energizers digitals, and if nothing else available energizers industrials work well too.

As for battery leaks, I found that it doesn't matter what brand, if they stay inside too long they will all leak eventually, it's good practice to remove the batteries if something is going to sit around for a while.

I don't have that problem, I use everything battery operated way too much, Costco is a good place to reload on batteries.
I have one of these Petzel head lamps that have 3 leds and an adjustable Zenon light, it takes 4AA's I primarily use just the LED's and usually have to change the batteries every six months (work a lot in the dark), if I use the power beam I will have to change them out much more often.
 
I have had Durracell's in my GPS for a year of no use, and they still got juice

I use AA rechargables in my Foxpro Fx3, or else I'd be poor :D
 
I use just about every kind of battery known to man in my stuff. I've lost exactly one flashlight to leaky batteries, and that was the one i kept in the basement for emergency use. I guess it had been there for at least two years.
For things like the gps, I do leave 'em in,but I also check every month or so. Batteries will go dead over time, and when they do, it may not be long before the leaks start.
 
I usually buy Energizers, Duracell if Energizers are not available. And for low drain gear, flashlights etc... any alkaline battery.

But I by far prefer NiMh Rechargeables, use then in my flash, my foxpro, camera etc.
Back in the day when I used to photograph weddings, I used alkalines, usually 2X4 packs per wedding, switched to rechargeable and I could get 2 weddings out of one charge. So according to my math, that is about 4X better, plus they are rechargeable. Back then, the charger and the batteries would rund about $60, now you can get them at Shoppers Drug mart for about $25-$30 Well worth it!!!

I have never had a bttery leak and i have a bad habit of leaving batteries in a device. I saw quite a few leaks when I worked at a camera store, if the leak wasn't inside the electronics, a pencil eraser seemed to work well for cleaning.
