Iam looking to get my daughter a single shot bolt action .22 for xmas she's 9 years old, I have looked at everything and have it narrowed to a marlin or a savage and looking for opinions on quality and reliability between the two, let me know what you think.

IMO Savage produce some of the most accurate barrels out there. Also, you won't believe what other companies they produce barrels for!

Their actions are well made, are reliable, plus at a reasonable price.

I have two of their guns currently and I'm now thinking of buying a third!

As all of the Savage rim fires are made in Canada, I'd tend to go with one of their youth .22 models.

Good luck.

Youth .22 suggestion

bunny,

Hope this suggestion doesn't complicate things for you but waht about the CZ Brno line ?. These are well respected guns are very well made and very accurate. They make a nice pink coloured model- see for yourself here

Check out the CZ Brno forum on www. rimfirecentral.com and do a search on the Scout model.
Prophet River out your way I believe is a dealer for Cz Brno.

Congrats to you for deciding on such a gift for your special daughter. Good luck, let us know what you have decided.

Regards.

Got a Savage MKIGY off the EE early this year for my grandson. IMO, it is the perfect youth 22....accurate, single shot, short, light, fantastic trigger, scope mount grooves, well-finished, pretty with its wood stock and accurate. Did I say accurate?

Before buying one, have her handle a couple. I ended up getting my 10yr. old a Mini Henry because she is so tiny it was the best fitting one she tried. Nice little rifle, shoots great, but the trigger is a bit rough.

She hadled the Savage and Henry. The Henry is to small, but the Savage is fine
I am leaning towards the Marlin 915Y My experiences with Marlin have been good and I think it may be better made than the Savage. I could easily be wrong on this but the Marlins just feel better than the Savages, Iam interested to read other CGNer's opinions, I would say its narrowed down to a choice between the Marlin 915Y and the Savage Cub. Either way there will be a new and very exited Gunnut on the morning of Dec 25.:D:D:D

I would aslo take a look at the Mosberg 801 half pint. It is a single shot that can have a plug taken out and turned into a repeater for when she grows a bit and want more than 1 shot at a time.
