Just curious, are the Yugos trade-ex are selling worth the money? Are they accurate and reliable? Or are the Russian captured ones better. I'm coming from the mosin camp so I'd like to know a bit about the platform before I get my feet wet. All replies appreciated, especially those who have the Yugos.

Worth the money? That's up to the buyer and the reasons for wanting one (same as any gun) but when you see prices on tradeex you will probably have a hard time finding them for less.

I owned a YugoM48BO that was literally brand new in the grease, never issued.
Bought from Marstar years back when they were first brought in.
I paid about $450 for it.
It was incredibly accurate. Extremely reliable, built like a tank. I shot it using mostly milsurp ammo but did put 20 rounds of brass Prvi Part through her and she was doing 1.5"-2" groups easily with that new brass commercial ammunition.
The iron sights on it are very narrow but when you pick them they are very precise.
If you can get them around that price and are ready to handload 8mm Mauser then you can't go wrong Sir.

I don't have a lot of mauser experience, but From what I have read and heard the yugo mausers are very well made. They are not top tier, but definitely one of the better makes.

I got one from tradex I think it was worth it.i have found them to be better shooters than rc s.i also disagree with Russian captures having more collector value

For the price the Yugo refurbished German k98s are a better gun. Atleast the Yugoslavs had a method to their refurbishment process. The Russian refurbs are overpriced IMHO. For $400 more you can get a proper German K98.

I had 2 24/47's about 20 yrs ago. Both were like new when I bought them for about a hundred bucks apiece. Only shot cast bullets through them. Both were very accurate. In a "silly" moment about 15 yrs ago I traded one even for a Chinese SKS which at the time was a fair deal. The 2nd one I still take out occasionally when someone asks about the possibly of shooting an 8x57. Fine cast bullet rifle.

I have had 2, and still have one. The first one was a bit of a frankengun, but still very reliable and well made. My current one is a fully matching, all milled BO. Love it. Stock is too dark for my tastes, but its excellent. Very well made, very strong, very "intimidating" to look at. The 8x57 is an awesome cartridge and cheaper than many cartridges out there.

If you can find a matching, all milled one in good shape, go for it. They aren't making them anymore ;)

I got this one last year from Tradex, 550 bucks to my front door. Stock was really rough so I refinished it. Shoots awesome!

Unfortunately, it looks like the nicest ones that TradeEx had, are now gone. Nice rifle, looks like a laminated stock. My Yugo M48 was a $479 Canadian Tire find... very pleased as it cleaned up extremely well and the bore is like new! Bayo/sling/ammo pouches/cleaning rod/sight hood on the way for it too. That's a VZ24 bayo that fits but isn't correct for the M48, I have a correct one that's coming.

Lever arms has the VZ24 for 350. Comes to 425 shipped taxes in.

No complaints on my VZ24 Mauser, it's gorgeous!

I acquired some extra handguards for my VZ24, two are on the EE right now if anyone's interested. Look the same size as the Yugo's, not sure if they swap in though (didn't try).

I have a m48 bo bought from frontier firearms. It was as new in grease with bayonet, sling and an oil bottle. Shoots very well. I also picked up 400 rounds of 8mm for 350 dollars yugo made in the 50's. Its a sweet shooting rifle.

I might have a nice M48-A on the block....but I haven't quite decided yet, a good part of me says "don't do it". It's a Marstar one, came with all the stuff, bayo, cleaning kit, sling etc. Pretty much as issued condition, couple stock dings, but otherwise looks new.

PM me if you are really jonesing for one, but I kind of hope you don't ; )

Can't go wrong with these ones, real nice rifles. Good luck with your search !

I'd rather have a Yugo capture 98 then a Yugo Mauser...they are OK but roughly finished and not exactly smooth actions.
