Hi,

I just bought a yugo refurb 98k mauser marked radionitsa(cyrillic)145 with yugoslav logo stampted on the receiver. All parts numbers are matching but the stock was forced match (the butt stock is cupped but no holes for the firing pin disasembly). What i got information wise, is that this one would have been refurb around 1950-1951 in a secret workshop somewhere in serbia (radionitsa 145) and that it has been rebarreled. Anyone here as a similar rifle and knows more about it? thanks in advance!

There is a difference between a German specification Mauser 98 and the Former Republic of Yugoslavian 48. From memory it is the length of the action. Most parts are interchangeable, but not stocks.

Welcome to CGN too!

Tip? It's a battle rifle, not a precision rifle.Don't expect it to be tame, accurate or comfortable.

If shooting full power euro made ammo you better hold on to it.Shot few rounds standing, holding it like a shotgun leaning a bit forward.

Depending on your ammo and light conditions expect muzzle blast of some sorts.Just as well you might experience light strikes of your firing pin (safe procedure applies here). It might be worn out, just the same it might be new.

With refurbed surplus rifles you never know but that might be just my experience.

The k98 pictured above was used by the germans in world war 11 ,these were either left behind or captured by the yougoslav goverment, militaryand reconditioned for use after the war ended.all the yugo reworked rifles that i have owned have been in very good condition ,with new or like new condition barrels and are very good shooters.they are 75 year old battle rifles ,very heavy with steel butt plates.they are not target rifles but they shoot very well and they ooze of ww11 history.

The worst thing about mine is its expensive to feed. Not sure about its precision but it can certainly outshoot me. I'd echo the comment about a nice muzzle flash.
