I've wondered - if you were to turn off the gas valve on a Yugo SKS, effectively turning the rifle into a straight pull action, would you get any improved accuracy?

I was just thinking that since the action wouldnt move, it would eliminate the inherent degree of inaccuracy semiautos have.

Yea or Nay?

I have never seen a semi-auto that did not have improved accuracy when all the rounds were manually cycled. Sad, but that's been my observation as a lifelong semi-auto fan.

You can build up the rear receiver tang with muffler tape such that when you go to put the stock back on, there is a slight resistance when you push the action all the way into the stock. This makes sure there is bedding there, and makes sure the forend is hard up against the forend ferrule (or as close as it's going to get).

Edit: I shot my SKS today for the first time after doing this modification, and I got some nice circular groups @ 100 yards, which were around 3" around for 5 shots. Bedding does help the SKS shoot more consistently and better. HOWEVER, the mean point of impact of the group was 4 inches off to the right, so if you try this, you will have to rezero your 59/66.

EDIT: I have noticed that sometimes my 59/66 cycles when it's on the grenade launch setting which is sort of puzzling. The shut off valve is in good shape, nothing is siezed up or pitted?
