Hey, was hoping to be selected in a special guiding license draw but not this year. That being said my wife and I are still heading to the Yukon in September to accompany my buddy, a Yukon resident, on his moose hunting trip and maybe do a little small game hunting along the way.

What is small game hunting like there? The one location is west of whitehorse and the other area is east, almost at the border with the NWT. Also curious about migratory bird hunting, worth giving that a try?

imho for any trip like that into the unknown its best to pack all the toys and tags available
have had the occasion when an overnight breakdown found us parked on the side of a nice stream full of grayling, sans any tackle

Grouse are on the upswing from what I've seen. We aren't on a major flyway but there are usually some ducks hanging in the ponds, worth the $17 and change imo.

Good spruce grouse for sure, some ruffles and blue. Lots of ptarmigan up in the alpine, and good snowshoe hare population right now!
As for ducks and geese, not that many of the good eating one, but I’m sure one can stumble on a few for the evening meals!

Lots of good fishing, lakers, pikes and graylings( pretty much every rivers and streams have them).

It would be worth having a small game and fishing license for sure !
Enjoy your trip up here!!

Ya, we were hoping that my buddy would get a special guide license so he could guide me but we will just keep applying and build up points for another trip. My buddy has a fish camp there, we will be fishing for lakers and if I get my way big pike and some other fish too along the way. The first time I was up that way I got in to some Grayling on ultralight gear in the glacial streams, cold to wade in to but so much fun.

We will be grabbing fishing licenses and most likely small game, both my wife and I hunt, then talk to my friend about migratory bird, not worth taking steel shot in my luggage so unless my buddy hunts ducks and or we can get a couple boxes of steel may not be worth it.

Not planning to transport any of my guns, again just small game I can borrow, I was even going to use his 300 WM if I was able to hunt moose.

Very excited to get back up there, the last time was when we got engaged and going back for our honeymoon 12 years later, yes, we are going hunting and fishing for our honeymoon :)

Spruce grouse and snowshoe hare are pretty common around Whitehorse. A .22 or shotgun works well. Migratory bird hunting can be good in September, especially near wetlands toward the NWT.
