That happened to me a while ago with a fake LL Bean site. they had actual pages from the Bean catalogue and everything. About $100 was involved- had to send the fakes an email demanding a refund for the goods that were never sent, then wait 3 months I think it was before the credit card company refunded me the money. Now when I see any such big clearance ad from a well known company I just ignore it. Of course you can always go the site of a company like LL Bean to see what the real situation is, as long as you don't rely on hot links, etc. This sort of scam is all too easy to believe from the larger US companies though, they do have outlet places where they practically give their overstock items away.
