Ejection issues cleared up, but now there's extraction issues.

Worked fine for the first 50 shots, but after that one in ten required a rod to extract. I was using cheap Winchester hollows, but I was under the impression that bolt actions should be able to handle any ammo.

Also the gun was supposed to be new but the paint was worn off the trigger, and the gun says mp22 and the book that came with it says cz99.

I'm tempted to try to return the thing, but other than the operation issues it's a very nice gun with awesome accuracy... But if 10% of the shots need a rod I fear that accuracy won't last.

Is this normal?

Are retail gun sales supposed to be final?

I'd honestly just like to return it and try a savage.

No. Not normal. It should also be covered with some kind of warranty. I'm a bit sad to hear this since the 3 z-5 i owned had no such issues. Good luck.

The mp22 was either here last year or the year before thats What I had. Had 2 actually. One of mine had problems extracting winchester ammo might just needed a chamber polish. Or buy better ammo had no problems with cci. Wish I never sold those guns

I have a space in my heart for Czech (any east-bloc) guns! Read your weak eject, curious about feeding, and this thread too...

If you've cleaned your rifle properly, load it up w/fav ammo, and cycle it like you mean it (I have encountered more than one person who gingerly cycles their bolt and says "Look! That just dropped out."). You don't have to bust a bolt handle off, but certainly don't treat it like a Faberge egg.

If you experience any of these issues then bring it back. I love fixing project guns (have a kitchen table full of 'em)40+years old, but this is a new rifle(?). As suggested they come with a warranty, and anything you do to it may void that warranty.

took it to the retailer, left it with him for a bit. he spent some time cleaning it.

took it back to the range. worked flawlessly for 30 rounds, then the ejection got weaker and weaker, until they were rolling out of the action... then after about 50 rounds extraction started to suck, and a couple mags later i was grabbing the rod every other round.

hows this for a theory...

if there was a problem with the chamber, the extractors, the ejector, or any other part, the symptoms would be more consistent. perhaps as the blueing is worn off internal parts, and there is still some grease in nooks and crannies, crap is easily accumulating... and if i take it to the range with some degreaser and a boresnake, and run that through at the first sign of toruble... the frequency it needs cleaning will slowly go from every 50 rounds to every 1000 rounds....

make any sense?

No matter what, you need to exchange it for another or use better ammo. I am all about tinkering with accurate guns, but perhaps the retailer would not appreciate the chamber polish. Have you examined any spent cases? Sometimes you can see evidence of a bur or other issues on the brass.

In any case, most rifles are fairly selective on ammo types/brands. Winchester ammo is very poor quality IMHO.

but every time i ask anybody "a bolt should be able to handle any ammo, right?" they always reply affirmative.

the number of winchester rounds i can get with $100 would cost $150 of the next up in price. the difference SERIOUSLY add up over the next couple years of shooting.

The difference in quality seriously adds up as well. A bolt action can shoot it doesn't mean it will work well in it. Stop being a cheapskate and pony up the extra 2 cents a round and buy something better and cleaner. Sounds like carbon buildup in the chamber form dirty ammo.

money is finite.
i have X amount to spend on ammo, reglardless of my cheapskateness or lack thereof.

50% more cost per round = 33.3$ less shooting.

i like shooting.

I like shooting as well. I shoot thousands of rounds a year. Spend less on beer or whatever and go shooting. If you want good performance buying the cheapest thing doesn't seem to be working for you so time to try something else.

are you able to determine that the only thing going wrong here is cheap ammo?
and if i were to go with 1000 rounds of the good stuff instead of 1500 rounds of the cheap stuff, i would not be having this problem?

not questioning you at all, just clarifying.

i just want to know whats up. im a noob, so im rather ign'ant

With one of the 2 I had it was cheap ammo that was doing the exact same extraction issue. I switched to cci mini mags or other cci like subsonics and problem went away. That is just one gun will it work of yours? only one way to find out. Clean all the gunk out of the chamber again before you try. Id buy 1-200 rounds and see what happens.

you were running the cheap stuff in the exact same gun, and had the exact same issue?

sounds very noteworthy!

I had 2 mp22's one worked with whatever but the other wouldn't extract the cheap ammo after the shot. Tried cci and worked good after cleaning the chamber out. Stupidly sold them a few months later.
