I know that the mauser actions are better suited to its original chambering and other longer tapered cartridges, hence this rifle will not feed any more than 2-3 cartridges, reliably.

When the 3rd+ case is loaded the other rounds sort of float around in the magwell, pivoting on the case shoulders, with the rims not riding high enough to be stripped by the bolt,.
You can clearly notice the uneven geometry when you load more than 2 or 3 rounds.

From what Ive researched most people advise to sand the feed lips and/or insert a block in the magwell to keep the cartridge rim and nose where they need to be.

Has anyone any experience these making these short action mausers feed reliably or can you recommend a good gunsmith near Calgary that would be well versed in these actions.
I've no problem tinkering around with guns but experience usually trumps youth, I'd like to have her ready for hunting season and the last project i had lay in several pieces for the last 3 months or so until I actually sat down to finish what I started.

Thanks for any input.

I have a number of Zastava rifles including a stainless synthetic .308. Excellent rifles. Mine have no issues with reliable feeding. The actions can be a bit stiff when new but usually smooth out with use. If yours is a new rifle I would be inclined to send it back for repair.

Never got feeding problems with Zastava in .308 Win
Check if the follower is not rubbing on something first. Then check if the spring is correcrly engaged where it should.

MY M85 in x39 feeds fine, and that's a far more different cartridge to 8mm than .308 is. Only issue I have with it is stiff extraction with lacquered cased ammo.

If there's a feed problem, take it back to the retailer you bought it from and see if they can either replace it or fix it.

My 375 had occasional feed problem when i got it, bit my smith fixed it when i took it in for other work. Not sure what he did tho.

Yup, could be bent magwell. Even loose action screws.

Yes, most of the times, it happens after someone took the assembly apart. The bottom metal may also have been bent or warped by overtighting the screws or by being misplaced.
Easy way to check that is by taking the action out of the stock, reassemble the bottom metal and check feeding without the stock. Then, reassemble everything by paying attention for putting everything back together and try feeding again.
