Does anyone have any experience with the Zastava M98 hunting rifles? How's the factory fit & finish, accuracy, and so forth? I'm thinking about getting a brand new one in .300 WM. Are the Zastava rifles are good value, or just cheap Mauser knock-offs? I've good experience with Eastern European rifles (My BRNO 602 is an awsome shooter, but very heavy).
Any info would be appreciated.
Cheers.

Where did you find them, I see on their website that they offer 7x57, which is intresting to me. I am big fan of light kicking chamberings. If this chambering is offered in Canada I am intrested.

The chambering availlble here will really depend on what the importer brought in. I did not see or heard of any 7X57 in the way for now. Baikal is the importer, so one may contact them to ask.

As for Sailor91 question;
They are the descendents of the FN Supreme, made on the same machinery (yes, it's still running), in modern steel. The reason why it's so much of a deal is because of the (some will say lack of) finishing. They shoot just as any other average Mauser type rifles.
Do not expect the same finishing as a Brno/Cz rifle, but all in all, you'll get a good rifle for the money.

Thanks for the good feedback.
I'm in the market for a new hunting rifle, and I'm partial to M98 derived actions... window shopping right now. My BRNO 602 is a tack driver, but weighs over 10 lbs empty! I'm looking for a good field gun in .30-06, 7mm Rem Mag, .300 WM, or .338WM that weighs 6.5-7.5 lbs. The new Win M70 Ultimate Shadow caught my eye, and the prices seem reasonable (around $750 + tax), but I'm certain there still some bargains out there.

To my point of view, the Zastava are in the bargain bin (for new rifles). Also there are plenty of proofed after market stuff (triggers, stock, detachable magazines....) to customize it without spending a lot of money.

I own a Zastava in 7mm Rem Mag purchased new last year and it was the last one I could find brand new in Canada at the time. This iteration is the Remington Model 798 and after scoping and sighting in it was sub MOA. Beautiful walnut stock, deep blued metal and Remington's recoil pad. The Mauser 98 with CRF is hard to beat in my books. Fired one box and put it away. I have since acquired an older (less valuable) Parker Hale in 7mm, since I did not want to take the Zastava outside.

If you are looking for a brand new one it will likely be the Remington version as I noted above, and you will be searching for NOS (New Old Stock) if you are lucky enough to find one in Canada. They were discontinued by Remington in about 2008 I believe and no one has picked up the import contract with Zastava that I am aware of. Good luck.

My 7mm is for sale on the EE at a substantial saving over a new one. What a shameless plug...:)
