Just curious for those in the know.
What Leupold scope compares to the
Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40?

I am seriously thinking of making the plunge
if a couple deals play out.

Would appreciate your reasons or experiences between
this scope and the Leupold you think matches or compares
to it.

I have to say that it would be comparable to a VXIII Leupold; but the Zeiss optics may be a bit brighter and the color rendition on the Zeiss is hard to beat.

The Conquest is comparable to the VX3, but unlike the VX3, the eye relief of the Conquest remains almost constant as you adjust the magnification.

I own a conquest 3-9x40 and 3.5-10x44 and leupold 3.5-10x40 vx3. I cannot tell any difference in clarity betwen the zeiss and leupold but the color rendition of the zeiss is better. I found the leupold lets in more light in low light conditions but it is kind of useless because the reticle disapears anyway, but the zeiss has thicker reticle so it is more visable in low light, in other words I found it to be a toss up in low light between the two. Zeiss also weighs more. On a backpacking rifle I would go leupold and day trip rifle go zeiss. I actually like that the zeiss is heavier because it just gives me a feeling of sturdiness, one of those intuition things, maybe it has a heavier body I don't know.

Just a note: Zeiss has discontinued Conquest line. It is now has been replaced by Conquest HD5 line in the ~$1K segment and TERRA line in the ~$500 segment.

Which basically implies that you will see some price drops left and right but then the stock of 3-9x40 will dry out.

Just did the deed.
Wish me luck folks............:dancingbanana:

Looky, you won't regret it. I have a 3-9x40 Conquest on my main hunting rig. The thing has never lost zero and has spent many a hour being hauled around the Albertan foothills. I once slipped on a scree slope while looking for sheep and the rifle landed scope side down and bounced down the scree. There was a gouge in the bell on the objective end, but the scope looked fine otherwise. Took it to the range the next day to confirm it was still zeroed and it was perfect. If the scope can take being bounced down a scree slope, it can survive anything else that will happen in the field.

The price went up a bit since last Christmas, but such is life.
I pestered the chap and he knocked a bit off.
And.......and.......and...........a Zeiss capalla I got him to
toss in.
Ooooh the bargaining I gut tah dew.
But which one of the pick up sticks gets to wear it????
Decisions decisions decisions.......dang it.

We have the Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 scopes for our Coopers. Just waiting on our Cooper rifles...

Cheers
Jay
