I have a diavari c that I got an a trade rifle and was told it was very expensive...1600.00. I can not find these for sale anywhere and I wanted another one as they are great scopes. What is the difference in the conquest line?

Excellent question - and I don't know the answer! But... I have Diavari-C scopes - they have 1 inch tubes and were made in West Germany for the N American Market. They produced 10x, 4x, 3-9x and a 1,5-4.5 versions with all having multicoating BUT I can't remember if they also have the so-called "T*" Zeiss multicoating. The scopes were considered to have very good and repeatable W&E tracking and the variables had virtually no change in zero when changing power settings. The variables were fairly short between the bells and mounting on some rifles eg Sako long action with the original Sako rings/bases was a bit if a problem

The Diatal scopes and the Diavari ..(without the "C" suffix) were made in West Germany for global market and have 26mm or 30mm tubes. The variables used to have (they may still as far as I know) their reticle in the first focal plane. They are all T* coated and are excellent optically. There is no change in POI when changing power on a variable scope with it's reticle in the first focal plane.

Based on suggested retail price I would say that Zeiss ranks the Diatal (and their Diavari ..without the "C" suffix) above the Diavari-C line.

Apparently the Conquest are made in US by or for Zeiss and have (mostly) the standard US 1 inch tubes making mounting them less of a hassle.... and allowing for inflation "seem" to be a little less expensive that the Euro Diavari or older Diavari-C.

Because I have the "C" and non- "C" models made in Germany ... I would like to believe they are the superior product BUT it may be that the least expensive (eg Conquest) is the best scope - I am not saying it is - but given inflated European currency and high Euro salaries and the advancement in precision manufacturing techniques (eg today they can produce excellent aspheric lens' for a 10th of the cost of 25 years ago) AND the reduction in cost and improvements in multi-coating techniques etc etc...I wouldn't bet the Conquest was better or worse that the high cost Euro produced Zeiss without having a very close look - and even then I don't know if I could tell or experience any difference ... also it is always possible to get a good sample of a less expensive scope perform better than a poor sample of a high priced scope ..... etc etc..

Anyway ... as for other differences .. I guess the closest you will get to an answer to your question is to have a look at the specs and compare. good luck!

25 Tikka,
I have a 3-9x 36 Dia-vari C that is marked "Made in the USA", so apparantly there are different versions. It blows my 3-9x 40 Conquest away optically. The adjustments on mine are marked 1/4" on the elevation and 1 cm@ 100 meters on the windage adjustments.(American or German workmanship?) When I squared a box with it (20 click) to check that out I ended up with perfectly spaced groups 5 inches apart with a final 3/4" 6 shot group at the starting/ending point. Not bad, considering I did it with a .375 H&H. Turns out it is 1/4" BTW.
As far as I know, the Conquest replaced the American made Diavari "C". If thats what you have, they don't make them anymore.
