Has anyone had significant experience with Zeiss optics? Can you share your findings/observations?
I have 2 of their scopes, both Diavari, Made In Germany, both 30mm main tubes. The 1st is an older one circa 1995, 1.5x6x42, and the other is new circa Jan 2006, 2.5x10x50. The glass is beyond reproach on both, and is of magnificent quality. On the newer scope, I noticed that the turret caps are now made of plastic instead of the steel found in the older model, and on the newer scope, the Zeiss logo is now a tacky POS sticker that isn't even straight on the side of the scope vs the cast metal logo on the older one. Obviously the logo does not impair function, but holy smokes, what ever happened to pride in craftsmanship?? Both scopes are impeccable in "return to zero" adjustment capability.
My concern stems from the obvious cost cutting measures on the newer scope and it makes me wonder if there were further cost cuting measures insofar as the internal build quality or materials is concerned. In any event, the question is mostly of an acedemic nature since I've already pissed away my $ on the new scope, however I am now looking at their low powered 1x5 scope with that magnificent 108' field of view..... any opinions out there before I commit more money to their products?
