Which is a better scope in your opinion and why?

Zeiss HD5 Z1000 or a vortex of the same value.

I have Vortex HD binos and don't feel they are as good as they as stated and personally unimpressed with them.

I have 2 zeiss conquest scopes and feel for dollars they are better than my leupold VX3-l.

Leaning towards a zeiss but unsure about the reticle honestly.

Thoughts?

i would stay far away from vortex, i had 2 viper scopes and they were just issue after issue. The tracking never worked properly. Issues holding zero. I have a zeiss 5x25x50 with the z1000 and it is amazing. the marks for the 100-1000 yard marks are really easy to use for quick reference if you are doing long range shooting or even just quick pop shots for hunting. The glass is comparable to glass from Schmidt and bender that are 4000$+ scopes.
Value zeiss 10/10.
Vortex 2/10 quality is crap

Germans make the best scopes!... or the best everything lol. You can find zeiss 5x25x50 1000z hd5s for about 1500 bucks from stores.. You can also find used ones on this site in mint condition for like 1200bucks or even less if your lucky

I have two HD5"s and I love them. Had one on my 7mm moose hunting for a week bouncing around in the quad scabbard, stayed on zero perfectly. Reticles on my r600 and r800 are thick for target shooting but great for low light hunting. I have seen a few places with them on sale right now including sylvesters in bonnyville. I like my r600 and z800 they work great, but with temperature and altitude changes ballistic compensating reticles can be inaccurate past 5-600 yards.

Is it worth getting the z1000 to mount on a 7mm rem mag?

Its made for 308 but does anyone else use on other calibers? Use the reticle marks or just dial up?

The Rapid-Z 800 was designed for magnum calibers, however you can get the Rapid-Z 1000 to cooperate by using a slower, lower BC load to bring a magnum more in-line with a typical .308 load. Similarly, you can play with the Zeiss Hunting program/app to see how your load performs with the RZ 1000 at different magnifications and work around that.

On a related note, with the HD5's being discontinued, there are excellent prices on remaining models:

Please let me know if I can be of any assistance,

I just got one hd5 z800 from you last week. Better price than the used ones on EE. Will put on my savage long range hunter 6.5x284. I highly recommend your company

I will be sending an email to you. Thanks

Zeiss. I sold off most of my Leupolds after I bought my first Conquest. Now HD5’s are on my best rifles.

I will never own another Zeiss product again after the dismal performance of their Conquest line and horrendous customer service I experienced. Ive never had any issues with Vortex and from what I hear they have great customer service. Personally Id buy a VX5HD or VX6HD if it were me.

Zeiss HD 3-15 for hunting.
Vortex PST Gen 11 5-25 for Target shooting.

I’ve owned a PST and a Razor 2, and although neither had any mechanical issues for me, I now own two Zeiss scopes, and in direct comparison, the glass quality in the Zeiss scopes can not be beat, imho.
Like lots of other guys on CGN, I have also have purchased high end optics a number of times from Plainsight/Precision Optics, and Omer is an amazing resource of Optics knowledge and experience. Plus his prices and service can not be beat. Highly recommended!

I ditched my Vortexes and now use mainly Zeiss scopes. You can't beat the glass and mechanics of a Zeiss. I really prefer the Victory line and if you can, see if you can find a used one in your price range. I found the Vortexes heavy and one gave me problems with zero on a .375 Ruger.

I run a Zeiss Victory on my punishing .500 Jeffery with no issues whatsoever. I trust it 100%. No way would I put a Vortex on that thing. An HD5? Sure.

My experiences with my Zeiss scopes mirror Propliners. I have a Zeiss Victory V8 4.8x35 on my Desert Tech, and it has literally seen 8000-10000 rounds the last couple years, of everything from 300 Norma to 6.5 SAUM and everything in between, and has never missed a beat. Best glass/eye box/eye relief I’ve ever seen in a scope, and I have owned lots of high end brands over the years. That particular scope is weak in its elevation and reticle choices, but my new Conquest V6 scope fixes those issues and has amazing glass clarity as well, all for a great price too.
Good on Zeiss to step up and compete now more directly with the Nightforce/S&B Tactical lines.

So I pulled the trigger on a Zeiss HD5 5-25x50 with varmint reticle and target turrets.

Will be on route to me tomorrow by the sounds of it. Purchased from Precision Optics, can't say enough good things about Omer, my kind of guy. He was extremely helpful, full of knowledge and patient with me considering that I had many questions about what was suited to me as well as many others that strayed into quite an interesting conversation lol.

Highly recommend Precision Optics!

Omer hope to meet up in the future for a beverage of your choice. Thanks once again for taking the amount of time you did to ensure I was getting what I was looking for.
