Is anyone using a Zeiss Victory V8 in any power?

I am considering adding one to my line up of optics. I haven’t found a local dealer that has one in stock to look at and hold.

I am mostly interest in the illuminated dot and the power switch for it. Is the switch easy to use with insulated gloves on? The redicle is supposed to be best in industry and you don’t have to remember to turn it off. I am curious about the functionality of it and if you can turn it on once and just leave it or if it needs to be shut off for storage?

I have the 2.8-20x56. The power button is just a button and is very easy to press with gloves on. Turning the illumination intensity knob is easy as well.

I just recently sighted it in at 100 yds. With my rifle setup I'm shooting 0.39 MOA. I love this scope.

Perhaps the best optical design available but they fail when it comes to turrets and reticles. In today's market those are 2 huge failures. Zeiss would have sold thousands more of those if they weren't such stubborn idiots.Imagine if you will a Zeiss V8 4.8-35 power scope with a mere 5 mils elevation. It is hard to fathom any designer being that stupid.

Remember, this scope is purpose built for hunting, not tactical or long range shooting sports. The reticle is clean and doesn't obstruct game and for my ballistics, the turrets will take me to 1100 yards. Which is more than reasonable for a hunting application. I agree the turret could be designed better (clicks aren't as good as my ATACR), but for what its meant to do, it does it pretty darn well.
 
With the zero stop it is 5 mil total elevation . It will not get you to 1100 unless you don't use the zero stop.Then you have 10 milrad but without zero stop. Plus the turrets make NO SENSE. Each full number is equal to get this, NOT 1 milrad but 0.5 Milrad. Go look at it. Whoever designed that has the IQ of a turnip.As I said, it is hard to believe they are that stupid.
Imagine you see the whitetail buck of a lifetime at 500 yards. You quickly set the scope at 2.3 but you have infact only dialed it HALF of that because each number only represents .5. As I said, hard to believe.

Not everyone hunts at longer ranges or has the time to "crank the knobs" before making their shot. They're designing optics for driven hunts and high stands and at the ranges which most European encounter I"m sure the adjustments suffice. We're talking fast paced reaction shooting. Unless we are talking mountain they may be relying on the various BDC options they offer instead on "dialing it in".

If I wanted a scope with more elevation adjustment be investing in a lower power PRS style scope for longer range hunting.
 
Well, most people choosing a 5-35 power scope do so for long range plus it is second focal plane so it’s not like the reticle stays constant. As I said, it’s a fantastic optical design but fails miserably in the other categories.
