Love the scope but hate the warranty turn around time. Sent scope in two weeks ago emailed gentec and was told mid to late December before I get back. I'm thinking ya right Xmas season then ya more like second week of January. Friend said he had an issue with his Leupold two weeks had it back. Come on Zeiss keep up with the times. Thanks for letting me vent boys.

They are not serviced in Canada, so forsure they are going to take a fair amount of time to be repaired. FS

How would they know how it got into the country?

Korth knows which serial #s they imported.

I used to work at the one in Calgary. We originally imported our Leupolds through Korth. Then had a falling out and imported them directly from the US. Korth would not warranty them, when this was brought to our attention we just took the broken one and exchanged it with a new one in store. Leupold USA apparently gave Korth a good thrashing, saying if you want to service our products you will service all of our products and now Korth will once again warranty any scope, whether it was imported by them or not.

Timely thread. I was looking through one today and thought it was pretty nice. This is reason enough to look at another brand for me.

Korths website still says differently, do you have proof of the above statement?

I sent my Conquest off to Gentec last November ...was told 4-8 weeks..it took 6 , got it back before Christmas ..No cost to me except the shipping cost..And the scratch on the lens was my fault .....you have to expect a little time for shipping and the paper work to and from the good old US of A

As for Ziess over Leupold ....$ for $ the glass in the Zeiss is way better ...but thats just my 2 cents worth

I had the chain on emails saved to my computer when I worked there, all from Leupold USA (I worked in the back and it was one of the things that was a ongoing problem.) Even if they didn't, take it in to BPS and they will swap it out. If the counter monkey is unaware of this procedure ask for Glen Puschner. I know Bass Pro took a lot of flak for that on AO, but the funny thing is as soon as we caught wind of it we started swapping them out for a brand new one. Meh I haven't worked there in awhile.

Sorry, my question was directed towards Korths warranty not Bass Pro's exchanging of scopes.

You are incorrect about many aspects of Korth Group supplying Leupold to Bass Pro and about Leupold "thrashing" Korth Group about not warranting product imported by Bass Pro. This is a more complex issue than you describe but at the present time Korth Group is not supplying Leupold product to Bass Pro in Canada. Phil.

Why go with an inferior product that is overpriced just for a warranty? Do your research and you will see that Zeiss rarely give anyone problems, they are cheaper and have better glass the any VX-III and under. Maybe if Leupold would have similar prices, constant eye relief and same quality of glass they would be better then Zeiss but that s not the case...at least in the VX III line. Oh and if you happen to buy a used one that was from Bass Pro you're screwed.

Everyone is entiteled to their opinion about what products they prefer, sort of a Ford Chev kind of thing. I have done my research and in fact I place my money where my opinion is and invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in many optics lines with the biggest investment being in Leupold. The reality for us is that we bring in and sell what people want. With respect to Zeiss vs Leupold are that we sell more than 20-1 (Leupold higher) than Zeiss. Zeiss makes excellent products but they have their own warranty issues at least or more than Leupold and turn around time for service is significant(compared with Leupold but similar to other brands). Leupold has a much wider range of products that compete price wise with mid level Bushnell and right up to the high end European glass. Leupold Canada (Korth Group), besides repair can do custom work on optics like replacing reticles, changing parallax, changing adjustments, laser engraving and other custom work that is not available from any other optics line Canada. Constant eye relief is a feature with some consumers but to be honest it rarely comes up in conversation with most customers as Leupold has a large "eye box" that doesn't require exact eye placement. In the scheme of things there is a very small % of Leupold product that is sold by BassPro and of course even less being returned for warranty. BassPro (like Costco) do their own warranty because they bypass existing distribution and warranty. In reality the BassPro Leupold pricing is very similar to what most Canadian retailers are selling the same product for. Because we sell many other optics lines I believe my opinions are reasonably fair based on value, availibility, durability and warranty. We just took on Vortex as we are always looking to keep current with what is ot there and what people want. I personally use several different brands of optics (and guns) as I feel no one manufacturer has the best product for every situation. Phil.

nope, bought a redfield "leupold owned company with lifetime warranty" from bass pro in vaughn last year and sent it in and 150$ plus 15$ shipping and i got it back, the answer i got is that the scope was imported in by bass pro and not through korth..... 50$ more and i could of bought a new one. it's bull$hit that they won't honor the warranty. leupold company policy not to honor warranty claims of products that are not imported through korth from 2007 until present.

I have written about Korth, and Leupold, and their little arranged monoply plan. I think if leupold has a warranty approved repair facility, in any country (AKA Korth), that all leupold products should by covered. If not Korth should buy them no name and re brand them. I'll bet that they can't sell them for the large premium over US prices that they continue to do now. I for one will never buy into the Korth, Leupold scam. I don't care what P&D pushes. I also want to comment that Phil seems to step in many times whenever there is any negative written about Korth or Leupold. I also agree with scot_r to a large degree, there are better products for the buck, but Leupold and Korth are using the border and service in Canada, to line their pockets with your Money.

I am not afraid to post (with my name) my support of companies that make a good product or give great service. Your right I often come to the defense of Leupold and Korth Group as often as you take a negative view of these companies. I thought that this was the point of CGN and these threads so that a reasonable debate could ensue and the consumers could make an informed opinion on what to purchase (or not). I try to stay away from personal attacks and think I have done a pretty good job of that. I respect your opinion that you hold and opposite view to mine on these issues and I'm OK with that. I just feel it's important to have both side in these discussions. Please note I have come out in support of many of the optics lines we sell as I find there are many choices out there and no one manufacturer can be everything to all people. The firearms industry is in flux in Canada as more large US based companies are taking over Canadian distributors and this may lead to different (better?) access to products and pricing in the future. I love a good debate both on CGN and in person so feel free to contradict my opinions...it's what keeps things interesting. Phil.

Phil,
Would it be wrong to assume that most of Zeiss' issues come up with their Conquest line? I have a few of the higher end Zeiss in scopes and binoculars(German made) and have never had an issue over decades of hard use, though I can't say the same for Leupold including their VX3 and VX7 models which I had to send in for repair. Many purists still believe Zeiss made a mistake by offering a cheap line, though other high end optics manufacturers are now following suit(Leica,S&B for instance). I suppose they needed the extra sales revenue.
