Zero and Calibrate your scales!!!!!

My powder pan weighs 153.3 gr. If I lift a charge the scale goes -152.2 and then -152.3. If it does not so this, the scale is re-zeroed and the charge is weighed again. I also shut off the furnace and make sure the dryer is not running before loading.

yes its a good idea to write down..or remember the weight of your pan after your calibration..then you know exactly what it shoud be..when it goes to negative weight.

I see 139.1 gr so often, that I will never forget it.It only takes a fraction of a second to verify this as you lift the pan off of the scale.

If you were using an old fashioned beam scale, this couldn't happen.

At least if it's not the lee one that comes in the 50th anniversary kit :D

I've been using it for a week and just bought a 50$ digital scale and will see how it goes.

With the lee beam scale I can weight twice the same charge and be over weight the first time and under the second one.

Either that thing is total crap, or there's something major I don't understand. Took me 15 minuts to zero it before noticing that if you pushed the beam 2 mm forward or backward (wich happens everytime you take off or put back the pan to weight the charge) it won't give the same reading.

So you all are saying you are going to re-calibrate your scale between weighing charges......

Now don't get me wrong, I do use my check weights at the start and end of all loading sessions, but I zero after every load I weigh....... Any more than that is stoopid and wastes a bunch of time!

Watching the weight reading for the pan takes no extra time at all,and it verifies the calibration. The same can be said for watching for the zero before pouring the powder.

I never hit the tha zero between loads, thats a stupid waste of time. I hit dispense...

Zero and weigh a couple of bullets. You have to be confident your scale is right. Weighing a couple of bullets of different weight show if the scale is accurate at two different points beyond zero. Especially if you can weigh a bullet close to the weight of charge you are going to use. This is especially critical with small cartridges and fast powder. Plus, if you get a load you like you can duplicate it.

I calibrate my RCBS chargemaster every time I turn it on. It only take s a moment and then you can dispense and weigh charges real fast. I never use my beam scales anymore, not even at the range.

I calibrate mine every time also. I think it says it should be done every time too.
