zero distance

I am shooting between 25 and 100 yards. What distance should i zero with?

I had the rifle zeroed in at 25 yards as i was shooting indoor only, now i can shoot outdoors to 100 yards.

Was shooting Saturday and i found myself having to holding over quite a bit at 100 yards, bottom of reticle.

Oh, im currently running a Bushnell Banner 4-12x with duplex reticle.

50 yards is popular. For hunting 70 or 75 yards a decent zero.

A 50 yd zero often puts you pretty close between 20-60 yd, so is fairly popular. And if you zero for 100, you'll have to hold under at closer ranges which most scope reticles aren't designed for.

This sort of thing is exactly why a ballistic reticle (even a basic one with just a few tick marks) and/or exposed turrets are useful when shooting with a 22lr.

gotcha. i had the scope for 10 years and was hoping not to have to spend the $ if i didnt have too. haha.

only really sniping the small steel out too 100 yards anyway.

Spend some time on a ballistics program such as this one:

Use the program to try out different ammo and zero distances and see what the trajectory would be at various distances.

mpbr then you don't need to worry. If you are going to use your rifle for hunting choose a 4 to 6 inch if you are just target shooting choose 1 or 2 inch, then it is easy math to figure out the zero spot.

Using a MilDot reticle, you could sight in at 25 yards using the top dot, and the cross hairs would be close at 100 yards.
Going through the rest of the dots below the cross hair you could be good out to 150 yards or more depending on the velocity of your ammo.
There is not too much difference with your scope sighted in at 50 yards and you would only be an inch high at 25 yards.
Between 50 and 100 yards with standard velocity ammo, you should anticipated being 8" low at 100.
You could also sight in for 100 yards and going out to 200 yards will show 35-38 inches of drop.
Playing around with the ballistics is part of the fun. Make good notes as to your ammo and the various gains and drops in elevation at difference distances.
