Zero in distance for a .22

I was at the range yesterday, just doing some plinking. I shot the 10/22 and tried some longer shots at some plates, at I am guessing about 80m, but likely a bit more. I was hitting low and typically I have only been shooting at 30-35m at bullseye targets, my question is is there a sweet spot for distance to zero a .22 cal rifle?
 
For general hunting, I sight mine to hit point of aim at 60 yards, it gives me the longest practical point-blank range. Depends on what you're hunting, typical range etc.
 
It really depends on what you are doing. Most of the time I shoot my .22's at 50 yards. However, when I go hunting (which is usually for grouse), very rairly will I shoot a grouse at much further than 40yards. So for hunting I like to zero it in at around 20 yards or so which then keeps it preatty close for anything out to about 55 yards or so.
 
I zero mine for the distance I am shooting at targets for that purpose, but when I take my rimfire hunting, I use 40 yards as my point of aim. Regards, Eagleye
 
I put mine about 1.5 inches high at 54 yards/50 meters. Hold a hair low on close shots, and a hair high on long shots, and I can get out to 100 yards with ease when hunting.
 
Thanks for all of the numerous replies! I doubt I would do much "precision" work past 50m, although I may reach out further. I will try a 50m zero and compare the variance from up close to say 100m. Thanks again!
 
With a mounted scope, I set mine at 3/8" to 1/2" high at 25yards. That puts me pretty well point of aim on anything within the 22's effective range.
 
I have my zero at 25 yds... most of my hunting with the .22 will be at less than that range anyway....but it is good out to 50yds pretty much at zero there as well.....Free stand shooting pass that point is pretty tough...good thing bullets are cheap...
